BLACKBURN page - 523 ANTHONY BLACKBURN is a native of Guernsey county, Ohio ; born in 1830, and a son of James Blackburn , born in Westmoreland county, Pa., in 1793. The old gentleman moved to this state in 1800 , and settled in Wayne township. The mother of our subject, before marriage, was named Mary Lyle, of Wayne township, and subsequently had a family of two girls and four sons. Anthony Blackburn, took his education in Hocking county and served his time to shoemaking with Mr. R. H. Halstead, of Steubenville. In 1854, he began business on his own account and has always remained a master tradesman to the present, his excellent and reliable store being located at 122 South Fourth Street. He was married, March 27, 1851, to Margaret M., daughter of W. Hood, highly respected in Steubenville, but who died here in 1844. They have had a family of three children - James M., born March 6, 1852 ; Charles E., born May 6, 1858, and George, born December 27, 1860, but who died March 6, 1861. Mr. Blackburn is among Steubenville's many old stand-by residents - a fair trader, and highly respected citizen. page - 554 Friends Church of Smithfield Church secretary in 1879 - MARY E. BLACKBURN page - 561 Bloomingdale Postoffice postmaster in 1859 - M. L. BLACKBURN page - 563 Samuel Blackburn was born in December, 1813. His father was Anthony Blackburn, who came from Pennsylvania in 1800. Mr. Blackburn was brought up on the farm on which he now lives. In 1839, he married Miss Rachel Rolen, daughter of John Rolen, of Wayne township. They have had six children - four sons and two daughters. Mr Blackburn is a member of the Presbyterian Church and has been for a number of years, and is a citizen well liked by all who know him. page - 572 Amos Albaugh - Christian Albaugh, the father of Amos, came from Frederick Maryland, in 1810, and located on the same section as the Leas family east of Salem. Married Catherine and reared a family of nine children, of whom Amos was the eighth, born December 22, 1823 ; married MISS L. E. BLACKBURN in 1852 ; has two children - Amanda J. and Celia A. Christian Albaugh was a soldier in the War of 1812. page - 584 1818 John Deputy laid out the town of Newburg now Slone's Station butcher - J. C. BLACKBURN page - 585 New Somerset Methodist Episcopal Church ministers - 1864 & 1865 - W. S. BLACKBURN page - 590 Island Creek Township was organized in 1806 the present (1880) board of officers Land Appraiser - JAMES BLACKBURN page - 593 James Blackburn was born in Wayne township, Jefferson county, Ohio, April 1, 1814. He learned the milling business and removed to Island Creek in 1834 and operated a mill for his father on Wills Creek. In 1835 he was married to Nancy Hanlen. This marriage resulted in six children. In 1852, he removed from the county for several years, and in 1859, he purchased the mill known as Browning Mill. He conducted this mill until 1871, and then removed to his present location. He has been carrying the mail for three years. Thomas Blackburn, our subject's father , was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., in 1792, and migrated to Jefferson county, when a young man, and was married in 1813. page - 610 John A. Chambers - The subject of this sketch was born in Smithfield township, Jefferson county, Ohio, June 30, 1827. His grandfather, Joseph Chambers, was born in Ireland about 1760, and while young emigrated to this state. The father of our subject, Benjamin Chambers, was born in Smithfield township, and was married to MARY BLACKBURN in 1821. That is all the Blackburn info in the book.

My Grandmother with whom I loved with all my heart past away on Dec. 16, 2001. I have some information about her Fathers side of the family but very little, just what was writen in the bible. Her Fathers name (my Great-grandfather) was Lonnie (Jesse) Blackburn b. 2-16-1892 d. 8-11-1945 he married Lillie Elrod b. 6-16-1900 d. 10-16-1991 they had the following children Inez b. 10-10-1916 d. (?) Floyd b. 2-2-1919 d. 8-24-1976 Edith b. 4-12-1920 d. 1921 Vera Louise b. 2-16-1922 d. 12-16-2001 Dorothy Margaret b. 4-11-1923 d. 8-31-1981 Lonnie b. 4-26-1925 d. (?) Lonnie and Lillie I believe divorced and he remarried or something happen. I know he had another son named Vernon but I do not have his date of birth or know if he is still living. On a website for Grinton, UK, is a paragraph containing this: "...and beneath the floor of the south chapel 'lies Elizabeth Blackburn, who was buried the 28th of February, 1688.' " This paragraph is about the church. Next door to this church is a Blackburn Hall. Thomas Blackburn b. 1822, Scottstown, Monaghan, Ireland, died 9 Jul 1870 Huntington, Indiana, md. Matilda Branyan 1849 in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio.
