City, state, and federal officials, along with members of the American Indian Movement in Colorado and the Sons group, signed an agreement in which the group agreed to rename the parade "March for Italian Pride." AIM agreed to support the parade and not protest it in exchange. Hispanic groups in the city also agreed not to protest. They have also been fighting the Columbus parade for several years and one leader said the use of the name Columbus in the parade will not be tolerated.
