    1. [BLACK-DUTCH-AMERICA] Rootsweb Update-- From MyFamily.com
    2. This from another list.... that listowners comments within [ ] -- read carefully, some very interesting stuff here..... begin quote All in the Family Corner: Information on the Root$web sell-out continues to trickle in. The latest info comes from RW employee Nancy Beach, who responded to a user's questions regarding the merger by indicating that 1. Rootsweb and MyFamily have clearly stated their intent to keep the information on Rootsweb available for free... we consider this a binding agreement. We ave not disclosed this information, and as private companies, we are not required to do so... (responding to a question about the length of the negotiations and when the final agreement was drawn up). (my personal comment - no maybe they didn't HAVE to disclose it, but it would have indicated some truthfulness and respect for us, now wouldn't it?) 3. Rootsweb has never been a non-profit entity... There was a separate non-profit entity, GenSoc.org, but this was never part of Rootsweb and has never been active. (my personal comment -- "there WAS?" does this mean there is no longer? My personal contention all along was this non-profit was only set up to shut up those of us asking about it. Ergo, the money's been made, it's no longer necessary to keep the sham going) 4. Rootsweb is still the oldest and largest genealogy community [notice she left out the word "free" from this statement] 5. Our Acceptable Use Policy..clearly states, the contributor retains all rights to the material that they post. So in effect, you can vote by removing your content. MyFamily has not acquired the copyright to this content, only the right to archive it and display it. (my personal comment -- this can be interpreted as "of course you can take your data down, and don't let the door hit you on your way out") 6. Rootsweb.com, Inc. and MyFamily.com Inc filed all the necessary paperwork with the SEC and other governing bodies" [Interesting. The SEC concerns itself mostly with publicly traded companies or companies that are planning on being publicly traded. Is there an IPO in the works for MyFamily.com and/or Root$web?] end quote Bright Star
