Turtle and Bright Star, Thank you very much for the book and movie suggestions. I will check them out. Turtle, are the books you suggested fiction or nonfiction? I know the one by Leonard Peltier is nonfiction. Are the rest that you suggested also nonfiction? Any suggestions for novels about Indians? Has anyone read these books: Mountain Windsong: A Novel of the Trail of Tears by Robert J. Conley Pushing the Bear: A Novel of the Trail of Tears by Diane Glancy Medicine River by Thomas King Cherokee Girl on the Trail of Tears by Dorothy and Thomas Hoobler Walk in My Soul: The Story of Tiana of the Cherokee by Lucia St. Clair Robson I highly recommend Love to Water my Soul by Jane Kirkpatrick. It tells the story of a white girl accidentally abandoned by a wagon train in the 1880s. The Piute Indians of the area now known as Oregon take her in. It is a beautifully written story, full of the everyday lives of the Indians and how the girl comes to love them as her family. It is fiction, but based on truth. The book was highly researched and is full of native words, customs, and beliefs. I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks again for the suggestions. I hope some of the other Black Dutch members will share their favorites also. Diana
