Hi Malcolm Many thanks for the reply which answers my second question. Although I entered the source information only once, I had forgotten that somewhere during conversion from version 4 through 5 to 6, what I'd entered originally appeared in two different places in the source field - under Abbreviation and Comment. Although only the latter is ticked, the information is still getting entered twice in the gedcom. I'd sorted this in my main database, but on checking, it appears I hadn't in these old databases. I've just created a test gedcom from my main database and the source information from that is not duplicated. However, the general information is still showing with this latest gedcom that there are no notes when clearly there are, so I'm still looking for an answer to my first question (below), please.
