    3. I sit here today thinking back to our beginnings . . . I am now 86 years old . . . forgive me for injecting these thoughts into your software concerns. My mind was reverting to the early days of our favorite software, Brother's Keeper. I established this "BK" list quite a while ago and I checked back into the "BK Archives" and found this message: From: Tim Pierce < twp@rootsweb.com> Subject: Brother's Keeper list moving to RootsWeb Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 15:14:07 -0500 "Hi, folks -- Dick Rose has been the manager of a longstanding very active Brother's Keeper list at emcee.com. Dick has told us that he wants to move his list to RootsWeb, so we're going to merge the subscribers of his list with this one. This is just to warn you that there may be a lot of traffic on this list before long. :-) You might also notice that at Dick's request, we've changed the name of the list from BK5 to just BK. That way, the list won't automatically be obsolete after the next Brother's Keeper release. :-) If you've forgotten why you're on this list or want to unsubscribe, send mail to BK-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body. Happy hunting! -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative system obfuscator and hack-of-all-trades" Looking back there were 118 messages in the first month of operation on Rootsweb, February, 1999. We still have 498 subscribers to the list. It has dropped some, but not too much. I would be eager to know if there are any of you who have remained faithful all these many years. 3. I have a saved BK list email from January 1997, from John Steed at a compuserve email address: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: John Steed <75745.1371@compuserve.com> Date: Sat, Jan 25, 1997 at 8:16 PM Subject: Re: Letters in Caps (was BK) To: bk5-l@genealogy.org If you have a location entered in BK and it has the wrong capitalization, then from the main screen pick File, Location, Global change. Then pull up the location and then type it the way you want. Otherwise, BK will change what you type in a location field to be the same as the FIRST way you typed it. BK saves each location one time in a file, so use the above method to change an existing location. 3. I don't remember when I started using BK but it was on DOS. I do remember going through an internal datafile format conversion at some point along the way. I used BK for a long time before I discovered the mail list. I've played with several other programs over the years. BK gives the best "bang for the buck" of anything I've seen. 2. I'm not really sure.  But, it's been a long, long time.  I see posts for me on the list back in 1999.  But, had been using BK way before joining the list. Whenever anyone asks what genealogy program they should use, I tell them to please check out BK.  Can't get better service than with John.  He's always been there any time I needed him.  And, this group is always willing to answer my questions, no matter how stupid.
