Hello- Is there a way to add a global source without having to be in a person's edit to create it? I am now at the stage of my research that I will be going back and looking at census data for people already in my database. I have not discovered any information to add just yet, I just want to set up global sources for the census records. Like creating one for the 1860 Census, and one for the 1870 Census, and one for the 1880 Census and so on. I want all the fields in the global source to read the same, and will just add personal information as needed. I cannot find a way to sit and create global source(s) information without creating a "new" source from within an individuals edit screen. Thanks. I don't think so, but is that a problem? When you create a source, it becomes global, in that if you add a source to any other event in your entire database, any source you have ever created for any event is visible. I put the same - e. g. "1871 census" (ours are on years ending 1) - in the name, author, short name, and publisher fields. > >I cannot find a way to sit and create global source(s) information >without creating a "new" source from within an individuals edit screen. As I said, I can't see that that's a problem - any source so created becomes global. Note that if you subsequently change one of the global fields in any reference to that source, BK will ask you "do you want to change that for all references to this source, or just this one", or words similar to that, and if you select the second option, it creates a new (global) source. (Be careful not to _accidentally_ create two very similar sources by doing this, as it's fiddly combining them again afterwards.) > >Thanks. YW. [] -- J. P. Gilliver. Why have a source if it's not attached to something? Jim -----Original Message----- From: bk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of J. P. To Rick Beitler If you really want to add some master sources for future use, then go to anyone in the database and add a source to them. After you have added the source, then delete the source from them. It will remain in the master list.
