    1. [BK] Brother's Keeper program on Windows 7 64 bit in the add on XP Mode?
    2. Michael Cant
    3. On trying to install Brothers Keeper on my new Windows 7 64 bit computer. I have installed the latest version from the website it is registered. I followed Mr John Steed's advice to install it on the C drive but not in "Program Files", and was then going to manually add the data to the folder and use the "Global search and replace" method to change the file path of the photos and media. But then realised that I also have the BK programme on mine and other family's XP computer systems! If I make these changes and have my new Windows 7 64 bit computer as the master one, I will not be able to easily update the XP ones! Has anyone run the Brother's Keeper program on Windows 7 64 bit in the add on XP Mode? I have the professional version so can download it, but will it work with BK? And would the file paths then remain the same so I can update the other Trees? Hoping someone can make sense of what I want to do, Mick, Isle of Wight, UK. 3. Mick, I have my BK on 4 different PCs 1) Main PC windows 7 64bit - installed on drive F: 2) Notebook running on XP and installed on C: 3) Old PC running windows ME (yes the 13 year PC is still chugging along) also on F: (use mainly for my BK backup) 4) On a home built PC run PCLinuxos on a simulated C: drive via the Wine emulator To get the files between the first three I have developed a batch file that copies them across my local network. Problem on PC 2 is the data, media & picture files might not work depending on how I have coded the path. There is a way the John has provided that the files are relative so that drive letter is not entered. Otherwise I can use the utility built into BK to fix the patches. Theprogramfiles should as a standard always install to C:\Program files\Brother's keeper 6 The databasen (your personal data can be klocated whatever you wish but recomend C:\Brother's Keeper 6\Data that is undepending whether you are using XP, Vista or MS7 And that is also undepending wher you have 32 or 64 bit. Recomend that you never have more than one versionb of the program installed. >Has anyone run the Brother's Keeper program on Windows 7 64 bit in the add >on XP Mode? > >I have the professional version so can download it, but will it work with >BK? > >And would the file paths then remain the same so I can update the other >Trees? > >Hoping someone can make sense of what I want to do, -- Otto Jørgensen http://www.bkwin.info/ All email is checked by NORTON
