    1. [BK] Pictures of files for source citation screen

    3. A suggestion for John Steed. Suggestion: Add a button for MEDIA and TEXT folders to the "Add picture/file to citation"/"Pictures of files for source citation" on the source screen. And, as with the "Open with default picture program" feature found on the EDIT SCREEN/PICTURES tab, possibly add that feature to the "Pictures of files for source citation" screen. Reason for suggestion: On the Source screen, clicking the "Add picture/file to citation" will bring up the "Pictures of files for source citation" page. On this page is the button to "Add picture or file". When clicked, the "Select picture file or other file" popup appears and it is logged into the database PICTURE folder. To save the file to the MEDIA or TEXT folder, one needs to click up and down in the popup. I have been using the PICTURE folder for (basically) portrait shots that I might want to have on the various reports. I keep images of death certificates, marriage licenses, scanned newspaper articles, message board posts and whatnot - these being more of "source materials" - in the MEDIA or Text folders. And I find that MEDIA folder route is more frequently used than to the PICTURE folder. Not a major item but would avoid the need to click up to the data folder and then down to the MEDIA or TEXT folder when entering an item. This is a handy feature I'm just now starting to make use of. ______________ As a side note - maybe a piece of helpful info - for those Windows Explorer type popups asking for a filename, such as you get when you click EDIT SCREEN - ADD MEDIA FILE, if you already have a pathname on the clipboard, you can just paste that pathname into the "file name" box and it will put the file into the proper folder regardless of the logged folder on the popup. For instance, when I started with BK, I made a separate folder - not under the data folder - for census images (yes, I save them and I wonder about it to). I get most of them from HeritageQuest which when you click to save the image will give you a new screen with relevant census page information. I made an Excel page with various conversions - one of which being the HeritageQuest info - which transforms their format into that which I use for the BK "ADD MEDIA FILE" and source information. So, I copy and paste the HeritageQuest data into my Excel conversion and one of the results is a pathname for the census page. That then is just copied and pasted into BK info areas, and specifically for the image data to EDIT SCREEN - ADD MEDIA FILE. Pathname (for instance) = D:\BK\Census\ (1840 U.S. Census) KENTUCKY, OWEN, NO TWP LISTED M704-122 Page 196A.tif, where Filename (in this case) = (1840 U.S. Census) KENTUCKY, OWEN, NO TWP LISTED M704-122 Page 196A.tif Don't ask about the parenthesis around the "(1840 U.S. Census)" - for some reason I just started that way and haven't gotten around to changing it. LOL. The point being that if you already have a pathname on the clipboard, you can just paste that pathname into any Windows Explorer Select "file name" box and it will put the file into the proper folder regardless of the logged folder on the popup. Using the Excel conversions for a number of data items in this manner has saved much time in logging information to BK. Not particulary relevant to the suggestion above - those being "one off" type of entries - but when you gyrate some "complex" info into your own formated bits and pieces it can save some time, helps to standardize your entries and avoids transcription errors.
