    1. [BK] [EXTERNAL] Compare what I have in Ancestry to what I have on Brothers Keeper
    2. Hi all: What if any is the easiest way to do some sort of compare from my various relatives in Ancestry to what I have for them in my BK database. I know if I was using one of the Mormon genealogy programs that it updates both at the same time, but I am quite happy with my BK experiences over the years and don't want to change. Is some sort of Ged file for each perhaps a way, that would then require a ged compare for differences. I am open to ideas and thoughts on how others do this kind of thing. Genealogy is great but when information is going into one database and not the other it makes for some additional research which is very time consuming. Thanks for any help, Dave Bradshaw

    3. There are two or three methods to this issue, Dave. 1).- You will need to export & download your tree from Ancestry.com as a gedcom file. 2).- You will need to export a Gedcom file from your BK database. a).- Import both in to a new BK database. Note how they will have separate numeric sequences - a useful demarcation. Use the BK Utilities "Search for duplicates". Or do a LIST first as visual preview. (Creates a personal vision of the data and its needs.) The BK List report can be customised to be specific then print out. * You can then delete that database when you have finished with the information it contains. With that list, update or change the relevant individuals on your main BK with the different data b).- Use Family Tree Analyzer on the above two files : < http://ftanalyzer.com/ > By far the best, but a lot to learn & know with is powerful capability. c).- Genmatcher from < http://www.mudcreeksoftware.com/ > Use the two Gedcom files above for this. I use other Mudcreek software on Gedcom files. ** The best idea of all is to >> have just the one database <<. Where there are trees and data off site, or online, Delete that then upload new gedcom files. By this method, there are no comparisons to be made except as a note of upload date and change date in BK. This assumes of course that the online tree data will consist of no more than basic, vital events, - just minimal data. while your BK data might be considerably extensive, with notes, sources, witnesses, photos, media, and a myriad of events not commonly expressed in online sites. -<*> - Consider just the ONE database for ALL your families. BK and its reports can handle that,. There are no duplications, extra research or two lots of the same work. Barry P.
