Hi all, Is there a way to rename the 'Notes' on the Person Edit screen saved as Internal text files? I often use this feature to note down information I have found but don't yet feel able to add to the person until I have further proof. It would be useful to be able to put it in separate files but also to know which was which (e.g. possible children, sources checked and discounted, etc). I suspect the answer is no ... Thanks Ruth
You casn not renname the internal text file. But moving the moise over the internal file you can see the start og the text of each file. I have asked JS to make a "small" area to the rithe so we can add a few Word or something to identify the internal files. --- hilsen/regards Otto -#- Den 03.07.2019 18:07, skrev Ruth Wilson via BK: > Hi all, > > Is there a way to rename the 'Notes' on the Person Edit screen saved as Internal text files? Ruth Both internal and External NOTES have a feature to NOT PRINT. So a note attached to a person is 'private', though it does export in Gedcom etc. To change a NOTE from Internal to External or vice-versa, copy the content to Notepad, Delete the existing Notefile then re-create the NOTE in the form you wish. Another method to have an 'independent note' is to create a the information in a text file or whatever format the add it to MEDIA. This does not transfer with Gedcoms or printouts. To Ruth Wilson Can you explain a little more what you want? Are you attaching one note to one person? Does the note belong to the person you are attaching it to? Or are you attaching a note about person A to person B? There is a column called Heading where you can type something about each note. You can attach several notes to a person. Or instead of Internal notes you can have External notes. That will clutter up your folder if you have a lot of them, but you can do that and you can name them things like SMITH_Possible_Children.TXT When you add a new note, after you type the note, at the top is a button "Save to a File." Use that button if you do not want notes to be part of the BK database, but instead to be separate .TXT files. There is not a way to change an Internal note to an External note. You need to pick what you want at the time you create the note. Thank-you Otto, I had not seen the option for the 'mouse hover' which is helpful. Sorry, John for not being clear. On the 'Notes' tab (after 'Events' and 'Children') I quite like to make notes about research I have done so that I can follow it up (e.g. these are possible chidlren or spouses), or research that has disproved something (e.g. John Fraser who lived at XXX is not him because ...) to avoid duplicating research. Sometimes I have added an interesting snippet from a newspaper etc, but would usually put these in external files. The Text file name is always (internal text file) and it would be good to give it a recognisable name. I do sometimes attach external text files, but I am thinking of the sort of notes it would be good to just glance at during research, rather than more 'serious' files. Sometimes I [] I wonder, would the "To do" tab be of use here? I know that _does_ have something like a "type" field. There's a column called "Heading"? I'm afraid I haven't noticed that. Where is it? Is this for the "(internal textfile)" notes under the Notes tab? I experimented and found that if I click the box and type in a name BEFORE I type the note, I can save it as an internal text file and it keeps that name. Is that the heading? If I change the name of an existing internal note it can no longer be found (so THANK YOU John for the popup warning about that). Registered BK 7.4.3, set to 1024 x 768, with Windows 10 (64 bit). To Roy Marriott Sorry, I was mistaken. The Heading column is only for Pictures. However, if you have anything that is not (internal textfile) in the text file name column, then you do NOT have an internal textifle. Anything else is an external text file in some folder. If there is no folder name before the file name, then it is probably in C:\program files (x86)\Brother's Keeper 7\ which is not a good place to put text files. To John Steed, Okay. Thanks John. And thanks also for letting me know where my "experimenting" ended up. I'm headed there now to clean. I might put a "heading" as the first word in the note so I can see it with the mouse-hover. Thanks for everything you do.
