I just checked and I get the same error message. In the french.bkw file, there are four three letter abbreviations accepted by the program: env (environ), CIR (circa), AVT (avant) and APR (apres). VERS (four letters) is not one of them. If it works for you, you probably don't have the date checking routine turned on (same screen as the choice of dates).
