I'm not sure of the effect on gedcoms but I just enter spaces for the unknown parts of a date. So "June ?? 1814" is entered "06[space][space]1864". This prints out as "Jun 1864". Cir, Abt, Aft, Bef are entered just that way - "Cir[space]1814' or 'Abt[space]06[space][space]1814". I haven't found the need for quarters but if I did I would enter "Q2[space]1814". -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2015 3:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: BK Digest, Vol 10, Issue 125 To all Digest receivers: There are two forms of the "Digest" differing in appearance. With one you can allow your input to be in a series of numbers or underscores and what you say is correct for that. It has to be in that format or it gets confused. The other option is to use your own formatting and then just a year on its own is OK. Year on its own is fine e.g. 1948 (or 197_ this meaning some year in the 1970's). You can also record for instance wedding anniversaries without the year stated by entering 6-Mar-____ for the 6th of March in an unknown year so the system is quite flexible. To: Otto J?rgensen <[email protected]>, <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Thanks for that, Otto. I can see your areas of need. If all the language were converted to one GEDCOM language for months and abbreviations and restored to the desired language from GEDCOM on the other end that would probably make a big difference. I was thinking if your number system allowed zeroes to be converted to underscores you could enter 23 April of an unknown year as 23040000 or April 1806 as 00041806. Another possibility might be to use 99031848 to be converted to registration date of (3) 1848 with the first four numbers starting 9901 going to (1), 9902 going to (2), 9903 going to (3), and 9904 going to (4) if this system was going to be regarded as universally acceptable for quarters of the year. Hoping that a later GEDCOM version may be able to cope with things like that. Just a thought. My thinking was clouded. The use of zeroes instead of underscore characters was out. They have quite separate meanings in BK. Maybe CIR, ABT, BEF, AFT etc. and the numbers and the underscore character as well could all be acceptable input for working with the quick date display set of characters. I said last time: "I was thinking if your number system allowed zeroes to be converted to underscores you could enter 23 April of an unknown year as 23040000 or April 1806 as 00041806." What I should've said was instead of 23040000 for 23 April of an unknown year use 2304____ and instead of 00041806 for April 1806 use __041806 Andrew Jackett of New Zealand. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Jackett via Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2015 9:35 AM To: Otto J?rgensen ; [email protected] Subject: Re: [BK] How do I write month and year only?
