A very basic question - what name to use for people who changed their names (whether by marriage or other) I like the format Jane name1/name2/name3 (using "/" as dividers) but this plays havoc with searches for "last name" etc JOHN B PS: I also have probs with e.g. Charles Smith Jones where "Smith Jones" is the family name
Is there any way of identifying duplicate records e.g. on specified fields? I think I may have several sequences of records that are identical e.g. 400-450 and 600-650, but I don't know where each sequence starts. I also have some triplicates! I have done a List printout. (Is there any way I can get this in a Word file so I can edit it before printing?) I'd also like to check if e.g. records 50-60 are EXACTLY the same as 550-560. Thanks for any advice! (Total files is about 5000 records) JOHN BIBBY
Is there a way I can flag all records for which the source contains the string "S1"? JOHN
John, When create a numeric report and include enough of the fields to help you spot dup and export it to a txt file and import into Excel and sort it to your heart desire to identify dup & triplicates. Eliminate them and run the report again. I have about 8 files from different sources that I wish to merge - say F1, F2, F3 etc are being merged into file FF I realise this is extremely hazardous! I expect there to be about 50 duplicates in FF, out of a total of some 2000. I would like to be able to flag each record in FF, so that I know which of F1, F2 .... file each record comes from. Advice please on how to do this. Thanks JOHN BIBBY

Hi Download the latest version and then convert the data files from BK5 to BK6 format. Make a copy before you do the conversion, just in case. Hi It will run just fine. Be sure you do not put your data files with the program files. Use a separate folder, such as c:\anyname. Copy the database into a temp file. Load in the latest BK6. Run the 'Convert BK5 Data' function. Is there a way to attach a PDF to the program? I have an obituary in PDF and would like to attach it to the appropriate person. Jeff Stewart
Hi What do BK users use for viewing gedcoms on an Android handset Tablet, Just wondering if there is a consensus on what is the best ? Cheers Pete PS Sorry if a bit off topic
I use an app called "Family Bee". It's a paid app (not free) and it's only a viewer, but it suits my needs and has worked great for me. They have a fully functional free trial (for 2 weeks) if you want to give it a try. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.beekeeper.android.familybee.trial&feature=search_result -Gary On Fri, Oct 7, 2011 at 11:53 AM, P A Glover <peter@postbox.karoo.co.uk>wrote: > Hi > What do BK users use for viewing gedcoms on an Android handset > Tablet, Just wondering if there is a consensus on what is the best ? > Cheers > Pete > PS Sorry if a bit off topic > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > BK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in > the subject and the body of the message >
