The recent "message 68" thread reminded me of this; this isn't the solution (I'm glad the OP got it sorted in the end), but I thought I'd mention this one. If you tell BK to include images in a backup, and you have links to the following two images censuses\1881\John Smith.jpg censuses\1891\John Smith.jpg , i. e. two files with the same name, it fails. (In my case the filenames are BK numbers rather than names, but the same applies.) I presume the problem being that BK doesn't store path information in its backups. -- J. P. Gilliver. John, a shut-down and restart seems to have done the trick. I did a backup and it went through correctly. FYI, I was backing up to an external Iomega hard drive, connected through a USB port. Trying to shut down I had clicked to backup, the first file came up and the process stopped with the 68 error. Clicking again brought up the second file and the 68 error again. Same thing with the remaining files except that after the last file the message showed that the backup was successful. Message body It is actually "Entire branch (all ancestors plus all descendants of ancestors)" The parents are Mother and Father. I also noticed another family with two children where one child is flagged and the other is not. ----- Original Message ----- > From: John Steed <brothers_keeper@msn.com> > To: bk@rootsweb.com > Cc: rolowj@yahoo.com > Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 2:42 PM > Subject: Re: [BK] Flag problem > >T o Jerry Rolow > > There is not an option to flag "all relatives and descendants" that I > see. > > Please tell me exactly which you are picking. > > Is it "Entire branch" or "Ancestors of a person" or which > one eactly? > > If you go to Edit and show one of the children, do the parents show as Mother > and Father or only as Mother 2 and Father 2 > > John Steed > > > > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry Rolow" > <rolowj@yahoo.com> > To: <BK@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 11:50 AM > Subject: [BK] Flag problem > > > bk6.5.1 Windows 7 > I have a flag problem. There is no differences in the two files, but when you ask for somehing to have in snailmail, you ask for a CD to be sendt and that cost. BK 6.5.2 Windows 7 64 bit When I last did a backup (to an external hard drive) I got an error message 68. However, repeatedly clicking the mouse moved me through the list of files (getting the error 68 each time) but at the end I got the message that the backup was complete. Do I have a problem?
John, I downloaded and installed 6.5.3 today. I also got a mailing from you to send $17 for a CD of 6.5. What is the difference between the two? Is it the ability to compare databases? Hi Curt, Be EXTREMELY careful about using easyphpwipejpg. If you neglect to make a backup or to COPY a file to a new directory it wipes ALL exif info. This could be disastrous as you lose all info relating to that file. You will lose the date the photo was taken and all info regarding your camera as well as any additional info you might have added yourself. There are a couple of alternatives that allow specific editing of exif data that I will add later today. Cheers, Pat On 31 October 2011 04:15, Dale H. John, When displaying a jpg picture a banner comes up at the bottom stating LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01. Is there any way to suppress this banner? Thanks, Curt
This is a new feature that can be toggled on or off. While the picture is showing, click on File > Hide comment box for this picture. Or, if you don't want to see the comment information for any of your pictures, click on File > Do not show comment boxes for any pictures. I'm using BK 6.5.3. When I preview an indented descendant report, the source footnotes are what I would call "efficiently" organised, with every reference to the same source given the same reference number. However, when I save that report as an rtf file, each reference to a source is given a new number, so the list of footnotes is very much longer, with multiple references to the same source. The same thing happens with a register report. Presumably this is because I might choose to print the source footnotes at the foot of each page, rather than all at the end. But I usually put everything at the end, and with a big report the list of source footnotes can become overwhelmingly long. Is there any way, John, that there could be an option to retain the "efficient" list of sources in an rtf file? Thanks, Howard
To Jerry Rolow There is not an option to flag "all relatives and descendants" that I see. Please tell me exactly which you are picking. Is it "Entire branch" or "Ancestors of a person" or which one eactly? If you go to Edit and show one of the children, do the parents show as Mother and Father or only as Mother 2 and Father 2 John Steed ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry Rolow" <rolowj@yahoo.com> To: <BK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 11:50 AM Subject: [BK] Flag problem bk6.5.1 Windows 7 I have a flag problem. To Howard Slatter In the BK program go to the book report and click on the RTF tab. Set the option there for "Endnotes with no repeats" Then it will print the same sources that BK does when printing directly to paper. To David Sandham You can do that with BK 6.5 and File, Utilities, Compare Two Databases. You can click the button up by the spouse on the right to add that spouse to the person on the left. As Otto mentioned, there is a video on the BK 6.5 CD that shows how to do that. I have two databases - one covering my own family tree (3000 records) and one covering my SANDHAM one name study (16000 records. I am OK in most cases with dealing with duplicates but is there a function to manage the situation of adding to the primary database a persons spouse, or new record, which exists in the secondary database. For de-duplication purposes, I'd find it really useful to be able to compare two or more individuals: listing their features side-by-side, to see what info is the same and what info is different. (Also their links, etc.) What is the best way to do this at present, I wonder? JOHN
