I know an event is between 30 and 31 March 1851, so I enter 3_031851 (I have ddmmyyyy selected as _entry_ format for dates). BK correctly converts it to 3_ Mar 1851 (I have that format selected for date _display_ format). But BK also says in red "Invalid date". What gives? (Similarly, "CIR ____1812" gets correctly converted to "CIR __ ___ 1812" but is also flagged as "Invalid".) Also, if I know something happened in the fourth quarter - i. e. month 10, 11, or 12 - and I enter the date as "__1_1666", it gets converted to "__ Jan 1666". (__0_1666 - for any of the other three quarters - comes out as __ ___ 1666, which is perhaps OK.) Ideally I'd like a way of recording a quarter. (Or to a family if I have to call a couple a family ...) I would like to record the fact that, for example, there are several more children other than the one in direct line, shown in a census return - and that I ought to get round to recording their details eventually. At the moment, I'm recording them (with a comment like "2 more children in 1871 census, and another 2 in 1861") as a "to do" under the father, but I'd like to have it as a "to do" for the couple. Is there any way to do so? -- J. P. Gilliver. UMRA: 1960/<1985 MB++G.5AL-IS-P--Ch++(p)Ar@T0H+Sh0!:`)DNAf "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here: this is the war room!" (Dr. Strangelove)

You can turn off the red 'invalid date" - options - dates I use cir/abt/bef/aft with no problem cir 1890 {no ___ or ---) Also 30 Mar 1851 - 31 Mar 1851 or 30 - 31 Mar 1851 both work Fran The Future is as Great as the Promises of God On 21/02/2012 5:32 PM, J. Why not just add them as siblings to the direct line person, then add to-do's for them. Then later you can do a 'missing information' report to find blanks that need filling. Seems to me you're making a lot of doubling up of work for yourself. Just my thoughts. Fran The Future is as Great as the Promises of God On 21/02/2012 4:56 PM, J. P. Look under <ists> <Locations with events> That lists every BK number associated with that location. Using 'Show All Events' does give a lot, but it works. There is a convenient BK feature that can identify all the persons to whom a particular source is attached. Is there a way to do the same thing with locations? I routinely take the shortcut of entering just the first few letters of a location, pressing F8, then selecting the desired existing location. But I've found long after the fact that there are several locations that I inadvertently created by accepting only the partial location name. For example, "new lo" rather that "New London, Chester Co, PA" or "New London, Huron Co, OH" or "New London County, CT." If I knew who the "new lo" is attached to, I could do a global search & replace. But since I don't know that, I wouldn't know which location to change it to. I could do a word search for "new lo" but that will also return all the more complete locations, and I can't narrow it down by event since I don't know that either. All I know is that I have a handful of partial location names somewhere in my large database that I'd like to correct. Any suggestions? Robert, A few things to check 1) How much free disk free space on the drive you are trying to create the database on. Hopefully this is new database, not an import to an existing one. 2) Using Windows Explore search for BKGEDTMP.TMP, if you find it delete it and try the import again.
