Rick; this has happened to me when I started to type a location and moved to another screen. Cming back to the edit screen I corrected the location not realizing the 'short form' had been saved by leaving the edit screen. First make a backup. Then go to "File" "Locations" "delete unused locations" after doing that check to see if "Saint" is still there. Question on using BK generated reports in a text editor. I have been reading for some time about the option of creating a BK report as a txt file, then manipulating it using a text editor. I tried this on a search report I did on finding everyone in my database I have listed as being buried in a certain cemetery. When I opened this txt file, the spacing was now all wrong, as it had been done by hard spaces inside BK. To use this data, it would take a lot of time to remove the spaces and replace with tabs. Opening it inside a spreadsheet application was even worse, as it read each row entry as a single cell entry! Suggestions on how to proceed from those of you who have in the past worked with BK generated reports inside a text editor. Thanks. Okay, so I thought that I knew my way around BK, but I find that something has stumped me. I printed my "Locations" report, and in that I find I have a location of "Saint." That is all, just "Saint." Now, having a major line that is of Catholic faith, you can imagine that I have many locations that have the word Saint in it. So I wanted to find this lone Saint reference, and correct it. I tried several things, including a word search report using the Person by field tab, and then just the Any field tab, making List to Edit reports. Well over 200 individuals popped up. And after double clicking all those names, I could not find just a "Saint" location! So I am very open to suggestions on how I can find this lone renegade Saint location so that I can review it and correct it as necessary. To Bill MacDonald Currently you can print the report with Odd or Even pages only, but currently the index prints without that option. One option is to print it and then Xerox one page on the back of the other. Another option is to only put 1 piece of paper in the printer and when it comes out, turn it over and put it back in to print the back side. A third option is to print to a PDF file and then have Adobe Reader print only the odd or even pages. (get a fee PDF driver from www.pdf995.com or somewhere else) You can reprint the index only by going to the report and picking File, Index Only Someday I may be able to get the index to print odd or even. So, is it "buried in restful cemetery" or is it "buried at restful cemetery"? Is it "married in any name church" or is it "married at any name church"? Which of the pull down options do you choose? Hi, I am a Registered user of Brother's Keeper 6.5.8 running on Windows 7 and a desktop computer. Today I printed out a Descendant Report for a friend with the second line indication how each person was related to my friend. The Report is 226 pages and the Index is a further 42 pages using two columns. My question is How do I print the index on both sides of the paper? The report offers that option and I used it but unfortunately when the index printed it was one sided only. I use archival plastic sheets and printing on both sides cuts down on the number of pages I need. Thanks Bill MacDonald
Hi John, May be you could consider putting up a button to toggle between the parents, like it was in Version 5.2, as that would be easier to find and more initiative than the present place on the drop down. Regards Keith
Dear Bob, You are wrong. For some people like me it is a very useful opportunity. I have as result of the Shoa (WW II) natural parents and foster parents. I like to research both families, but my children are very happy that I can show now my relation to my natural parents as to my foster parents. For them the last one are the real grandparents. You can see it on my site http://www.maxvandam.info/ . Look to Max van Dam married to Bertha Henriette Bromet. For my site is the input the gedcom of BK. Hi Dave, Select your cousin to show on the edit page, Then click on "Edit" from the top of the page and the drop down menu should allow you to pick "Rearrange Parents" click on that and the alternate parents will show Hope this helps Bye Karlena -----Original Message----- From: DESloan@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 11:59 PM To: bk@rootsweb.com Subject: [BK] Second set of parents Hello, I have a cousin that was adopted. To Dave DESloan@aol.com If you just want to View the second parents, then from the top menu pick Find, Show Secondary Parents. If you want to switch which is primary or secondary, then pick Edit, Rearrange parents. Thanks to all who replied to my problems with Windows CE. In the meantime I looked at reviews for this "notebook" and no one had a good word to say for it. No good to me if it won't accept BK. At least now I know I won't waste any more time on it. Rita
Windows CE is not Windows like most people know. It's usually used on dedicated devices like kiosk. Very doubtful that BK would ever run on CE. You did not mention the brand or model, but Windows CE is not really Windows. It is an operating system for minimal computers such as Personal Data Assistants (PDAs) or "Pocket PCs". What you have is undoubtedly not a notebook computer, but at best a PDA or possibly a tablet. Dale H. To Batya Olsen Are you backing up to a CD-R or a USB flash drive? After the backup, are those picture files on the backup disk? Error 75 can happen if the file is already on the backup disk and the file property is set to Read Only. Try backing up to a new place, like a new folder on a USB flash drive and see if you still get the error.
