Close, but not quite what I'd want. I'd like to pick which events to appear in which order, not let the program arbitrarily pick them. -----Original Message----- From: Otto Jørgensen Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 6:43 AM To: bk@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BK] Edit Page On Wed, 9 May 2012 21:31:41 -0400, "David Youse" <dhyouse@comcast.net> wrote: >Is there a way to globally change the order of the “Event/Fact” fields >as they appear on the Edit page? To David Youse >From the main screen pick File, Utilities, Global Event Sort That sorts the individual events. There is not a way to globally delete blank events. What type of blank events do you have to delete? Can you give me an example. You can change SSN by making a COPY of the English.BKW file. For example ENGLISH2.EXE Then edit it to change to what you want. Be sure you do NOT add or delete any lines. Then start BK6 and pick Help, Change Language, and pick English2 (The reason to not edit the regular English.bkw file is that I change that with every update, so you do not want my changes to write over your changes.) John, I recently had this same problem when that file English.R6 was marked as "Hidden" by Windows 7. This was after I had my disk seemingly crash, and I recovered it by finally managing to do a System Restore to a point before the last windows update. After that process got nearly everything back to normal, I still had to go thru the process of going into Properties on the Users folder and marking all files Hidden, and then unchecking that so that NO files would be hidden. That got all my photos and personal documents to be accessible again. However, I have Brother's Keeper under C:\BK6 instead of under C:\Users, so I ran into the same problem as Mona did when I tried to run "Compute Relationship", which I do a lot. The same process fixed it. I hope this is helpful. To Michael palekaiko@gmail.com The descendant reports always print the spouses and all the children. Can you explain what you want it to do that it is not doing currently? Do you want just 2 generations? (One person with spouses and children but no more generations) Do you want the children listed with the spouses? Are you doing a Descendant report, or Tree chart, or Register Book, or Indented Book report? Select the type of Descendant Chart you want, pick the person you want, and before you hit the Start button click on 'Fields To Include" and check the box that says "Show Which Spouse If Multiple Marriages." Set 'Number of Generations" to 1, if you only want to show the person, his/her spouses and their children only. You get: John Doe -first wife's name -second wife's name -third wife's name in top box, then all his children in next line. Children with second wife will have a number 2 in the corner of the box. Children with 3rd spouse will have a number 3 in corner of box, etc. Hope this helps. - Wilberta -----Original Message----- From: Palekaiko <palekaiko@gmail.com> To: bk <bk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Mon, May 7, 2012 5:56 pm Subject: [BK] Printing spouses and children Ok all you super users. Hi Rick, If the "delete unused locations" process does not work to remove your "Saint" entry, use the "Change Location Globally" process. When you select this you can choose the location that just says "Saint" and change it to something that is not likely to be in your database perhaps XXSaintXX or whatever you can easily identify as being the problem location. Now do a location search under find using the changed location name and you should have no problems identifying it from all the other "Saint ?" entries you have. Once you are sure you have found and corrected all instances of this rogue entry, rerun the "Delete unused Locations" process and the altered entry name should be removed from your database. Hope this helps Bye Karlena -----Original Message----- From: Rick Beitler Sent: Monday, April 30, 2012 4:38 AM To: Brothers Keeper List Subject: [BK] Locations report issue Okay, so I thought that I knew my way around BK, but I find that something has stumped me. I printed my "Locations" report, and in that I find I have a location of "Saint." That is all, just "Saint." Now, having a major line that is of Catholic faith, you can imagine that I have many locations that have the word Saint in it. So I wanted to find this lone Saint reference, and correct it. I tried several things, including a word search report using the Person by field tab, and then just the Any field tab, making List to Edit reports. Well over 200 individuals popped up. And after double clicking all those names, I could not find just a "Saint" location! So I am very open to suggestions on how I can find this lone renegade Saint location so that I can review it and correct it as necessary. To Rich Beitler When you make a TXT file, it is text only and when you view it with your word processor, set the text font to Courier New. You must view it with a font that is fixed spacing in order for the columns to line up. If you want to import it into a spreadsheet or database program, then before you make the text file, add field 91 also. Then pick FIle, Create TXT file and it will make a comma separated value file, so you can name it .CSV in stead of TXT In the BK manual, see page 51-54 about the custom reports.
