To Gilles de C. Paquette There is not an option currently to import empty fields from gedcom. Some programs in the past made gedcom files with empty fields and most BK users did not want them imported, so that is why it works that way. I may be able to give an option in the future to import blank fields. John Steed ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gilles de C. Hi, When importing a Gedcom, if a field is empty, it will not show up in BK. Example, in a Gedcom I have valid data in a birth field but no data in a baptism field. After importing, the birth field shows up in BK but there is no empty baptism field, it has to be added manually. This also applies to death and/or burial fields. Is there a way of always showing certain vital fields after importing a Gedcom even if they are empty? Like always show birth, baptism, death and burial fields whether they contain data or not. Thanks. Gilles Paquette

To Gilles de C. Paquette I do not currently have a way to globally change a quality of a source for several people. Perhaps I can add it in the future. Hi, Is it possible to globally change the quality of a source, lets say from 2 to 3? On the edit source screen, the lower yellowish section doesn't show up. And when modifying a source for an individual, this modification made in the yellowish section is valid only for this particular individual. When one has a few hundred individuals sharing the same source with the same "rating" change it becomes rather cumbersome to go through each one individually. Thanks. Gilles Paquette
I have recently created a GedCom file from BK then imported it into another programme (Ancestral Author) to extract my own ancestors and the descendants of my earliest recorded ancestor to be compiled into book form with my own text, images and photographs. The descendant and ancestor file have extracted exactly as I wanted except for numerous symbols printed by the side of some ancestors. The symbols are always the same (£Ï_áaƱ). At first I thought these symbols represented where the particular ancestor had a link to an external file on my hard drive but on closer examination this is not always the case. The symbols sometimes appear where there is a link to an internal file and sometimes they do not appear where there is a link to an external file. Does anyone know what these symbols (£Ï_áaƱ) represent and, more importantly, how I can stop them printing in the output? Many thanks. Malcolm Webb mfwebb2005@btinternet.com

Malcolm, Pick out one person then open the GEDCOM file in Notepad and find that person. Are the funny characters in the GEDCOM? If not then it is a problem with Ancestral Author. John I have a request In Brother's Keeper Other Individual Timeline would it be possible to include items from an 'Events.txt file' as is done in Ancestor Timeline which has a Tick Box "Include famous people from BKEVENTS.TXT file" ? What I would like to include are things like 'moved house', 'relocated', 'built sunroom' etc. These could be written by me in that text file and then have the option to include those in the Timeline. I am running Brothers Keeper 6.5 on a new PC that is Windows7 (I had XP before). I have just discovered it is putting most of my data under Program Files. I see the fix for this in the BK help file. It worked fine for my main database which is now safely at C:\BK6\DATA. However, I have about 15 databases - some I have split from my main database, some I am working on for other folks, etc. I now use the same routine to "move" each of those? I tried 2 or 3 and had lots of problems. I am trying to use as for example "C:\BK6\DATA\Charlie" They don't seem to show up when I "open list of databases". They do show up most of the time under File- Utilites - find database. Will I have to manually enter the path for each under the "edit" function" of "open list of databases". I have them all backed up on an external drive but I am hesitant of "playing" too much and losing something. Thanks for any assistance. Maureen Farrell mfarrell@bge.net

To Bill Cook If you have Windows 7 you may need to format the CD before BK can write to it. Pick Start, Computer, and Right click the CD drive and pick Format.
