    3. To Michael Diamant Do you have a current backup copy of your BK data? If yes, then start BK6 and click File, Open Database. Pick the D drive and then create a folder such as D:\BK6\Data Then click OK After it says that folder name at the bottom, then pick File, Restore data and restore from your backup disk. After that, send me a private email about how to remove the data from where it is on C: now. 3. make sure you have an up-to-date backup. Got to "My computer" and find where the BK data file is now - right click - then choose "move to" - and type path where you want the database to be: i.e.: D:/BK Data As Otto says, when you open the program, type in the new path and bingo! it's should be there. You then can use the program to change the "text" "photos" etc to the correct path names. 3. Like so many others, I have recently switched to a new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My BK version is 6.5.13. When I installed BK, all the data files were placed in the Programs Files folder. I have two HDs. The C:/ drive is an SSD and is where I store all program files. The D:/ drive is a 1tb HD for all my data. Question: Is it possible to put all my BK data in a folder on the D:/ drive? If so, would someone be so kind as to instruct me how to do this. And once done, how do I safely remove the data files from their current location? Thanks, Michael Diamant

    3. To John Cullom How large is the backup disk? It an external hard drive, or it is a DVD-R drive, or a USB Flash drive (thumb drive)? Sometimes if the disk is too large, BK is not able to calculate the size correctly, but there is a way to work around that. Are you using BK 6.5 or what version of BK? 3. To madcitytraveler@yahoo.com Go to the Split database routine. Create a new folder for the new database. Then when it asks which people to select, press the F3 key. It will pop up a message that it will keep the same BK code numbers. Then select the people. Then copy them to the new folder. 3. NB BK 6.5.13 released yesterday, on the 03 August 2012. I now use the SyncToy 2.1 application for most of the backup routines. It is free from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15155 Very easy to set up, and to use. You can backup one way, two ways, or simply synchronise. Regards John Bright

    3. I have an external drive and simply backup to it using the "create file" process in the BK routine (Win XP). The actual backup folders are in a parent folder called "BKbackup" and the child folders are by date of backup, i.e., 20120803 would be the folder name if I did a backup today. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fran LaChance" <singer.35@hotmail.com> To: <bk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 03, 2012 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [BK] Backing up BK data in 6.5.11 > Mick; > > When I back up to my flash drive I b/up to E:\BK Data\02Aug12 Each back up > has it's own > date so that way I know exactly which one is the latest. > > Fran > > > The Future is as Great as the Promises of God > On 03/08/2012 8:48 AM, Michael Cant wrote: >> Hi all, >> >> Am using Brothers Keeper 6.5.11 on Windows 7 64 bit. >> >> When doing a backup of data from the file menu, it sends the data to a >> flash drive ok, but is there a way to have the data in a folder so I can >> have more than one backup on the drive ? >> >> >> >> With XP I used to copy the folder complete. >> >> Mick. >> >> >> >> >> >> Michael Cant >> >> UK. >> >> >> >> Remember - Use the Archives at >> http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> BK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in >> the subject and the body of the message >> >> > > Remember - Use the Archives at > http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > BK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in > the subject and the body of the message
