    3. What I sometimes do for known dead ends is to enter a dummy child called "No Children", or a dummy spouse called "Unmarried". However, I more often merely attach a message to that effect to the person, though that doesn't rint out in the normal descendant chart. (I am still using BK5g, by the way). 3. Hi Fran, Unfortunately the death year is not always the burial year. It can be several years before a person is buried. For instance, a person may be cremated and buried a decade later. Some soldiers are not buried for many years after their death. 3. Dear Gilles, It is not clear for me what is your purpose to make a separate gedcom. In my databare maybe 50 or 60 family-trees. I make only a gedcom of a part of my database if I send this to an other person. If you want to make an separate database on your own computer of a part, is my question why. At the moment that you make separate family-trees in divers BK-files you make it more complicate for yourself if you have additions. I advise always make one database of all your genealogy-information. My database contains more than 80.000 people. Is it possible to add two branches to a Gedcom file? For example, I want to extract my personnal data starting at both my father's farthest ancestor AND my mother's farthest ancestor. And what would it be easier, to extract to a Gedcom file or to extract to a new database? Thank you for your help. 3. One additional question: how many times can this procedure of selecting descendants be used in the same "session"? I've done it four times (ancestors of my grand-parents), but is there a limit? Gilles Le 2012-09-05 19:06, John Steed a ecrit : To Gilles On both the Split database and the Gedcom export, you can select multiple groups at the same time. Go to one of those and on the select person pick Descendants of your father's ancestor. Then click the same button again and pick Descenants of your mother's ancestor Each time you select more people, then number of selected people will increase. It will not duplicate people (if you select yourself two or three times, it will still copy you only one time) Then after you have selected everyone you want, THEN click Copy. John Steed

Hello John and list, I am using BK not only to track my ancestors, but also to maintain the data of all descendants of a 5x great-grandfather of mine. We regularly meet in family reunions and keep track of all the news of the descendants' families. This also brings a lot of modern forms of partnerships, that I do not know how to add to my BK data. How do you treat same-sex relationships of couples living together? In some countries/states it is possible to register these relationships (similar to a marriage). How do you add (adopted) children of such same-sex couples? Is there any way to enter this in BK? So far the program requires that partners must have opposite sex, I think. Looking forward to your feedback. Thank you. Bert from Germany
