    1. [BK] Changing age in display
    2. Dave Bradshaw
    3. John: This might seem to be an odd request and I don't know if it's even a possibility: At the moment, age shows when there is a birth date and a death date. Would it be possible to have the age recalculated and change when I click on an event in the left edge, e.g. marriage (age shows 22), occupation farmer (age shows 34), resided (age shows 25), census (age shows 37) etc. When there are ages shown in a source it would be a good secondary check to have available if it can be done. Leaving the record the age should then default to what now happens, difference birth/death. As always the idea is open for discussion by everyone. Dave Bradshaw

    3. >From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8#Software_compatibility Software compatibility BSOD in Windows 8 Windows 8 for IA-32 and x64 processors runs most software compatible with previous versions of Windows, with the same restrictions as Windows 7: 64-bit Windows 8 runs 64-bit and 32-bit software while 32-bit Windows 8 will be able to run 32-bit and 16-bit software (although some 16-bit software may require compatibility settings to be applied, or not work at all). Windows RT, a version of Windows 8 for systems with ARM processors, only supports applications included with the system (such as a special version of Office 2013), supplied through Windows Update, or Windows Store apps. Windows RT does not support running existing IA-32 or x64 desktop applications to ensure the quality of apps available on ARM.[109] Windows Store apps can either be cross-compatible between Windows 8 and Windows RT, or compiled to support a specific architecture.[110] Jim -----Original Message----- From: bk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of David Youse Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2012 7:52 PM To: John Steed; bk@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BK] Portable devices There are several tablets that run Windows, such as the Dell Latitude ST, the HP Slate 2, the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550, the Acer Iconia W500 and the Samsung Series 7 Slate. 2. Help.  I was in BK (fairly recent version, can't check right now without some help - maybe one or two updates ago) putting a note on someone.  I entered the note and saved it.  Then, wanted to get back to my list of notes and noticed only that one note open would appear.  I exited that person and went to her spouse.  He showed the same thing.  One open note, no list of notes.  I went back to her and still saw the one note.  So, tried to exit the program and see if opening it up again would fix this. I then got an error message as follows: Write protect your existing backup copies of data files.  Make a new backup set of data files.  Do not overwrite existing backup.  You may need to restore your best backup of your data. File:  BKPERSON.DT6 Incompatible mode.  Btrieve error 88   xcode = 0 BKPERSON.DT6   GETLAST STAT =3  person GETSTAT ERROR = 3 My data is linked to Dropbox and my other computer.  I tried to open the program again and got the above messages and an empty database.  I closed it before checking the version. My question - since my computers are both linked to my Dropbox, I cannot use that as a backup to restore from, right?  I think the last backup besides my copy on dropbox was a backup of my dropbox on my desktop computer prior to our hard drive crashing and the auto backup being lost.  Not the actual backupped files, just the set up of the auto backup to happen.  That was back in April.  It should still be on the that drive.  I was gone for three months and have been playing catchup since to get that desktop back to normal and doing backups.  I'm afraid I may regret that here. So, is my thinking right that I will need to restore from my backup file back in April? If so, I'm confused about what the error messages above are telling me I need to do. Thanks for any help. 3. Otto recently suggested that another idea that would be nice to have is a way to tell that this is "dead end", and that there are no descendents from a marriage. I agree that would be a very good idea, and hope that it can somehow be incorporated. Possibly the column where the descendents would be could say 'no children' or words to that effect Sue Horsman

But sometimes we have the information and in Edit put the information "No children from that couple" That is an excast information, that I wish to be marked also in the chart, with a "dot", a "updown line" or something that identify the end of the line. -- Otto Jørgensen http://www.bkwin.info/ All email is checked by NORTON
