Another GEDCOM error I am getting is unmapable characters. What is in my  files as Dörrenbach ends up D”rrenbach in the gedcom. Does  GEDCOM not support the full 256 characters set?  Some of my   data is cut and paste so may have illegal characters. How can I view the ascii number of  the character. Also , how do I find hidden white spaces in the GEDCOM. Thanks for any help. Joe  Weiss

Hi Jim, Quality Check found no errors.  I did use Family Tree Analyzer but am not versed enough to know how to fix the 'errors' it showed and there were a multitude of them.  Also my old eyes are wearing down and I don't see all that well. I use that and Microsoft Word for my gedcom editing. An invisible problem is the use of the 'space' or 'tab' characters where none should be or allowed. Sometimes a Carriage-Return or a Line-feed is inserted inappropriately. All these cause problems with receiving programs that have limited and very strict rules. Barry P. Hi Tony, I regularly loose quite a few control files. See screen shot below. I my case they are stored in C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\Temp I have simply backed up these files in a separate folder and whenever they disappear I copy them back. Solved. Hi, The "Hot keys" / Ctrl Keys BK file gets deleted by Ccleaner, is there any way I can stop this, or save a copy to reinstate if it gets deleted - I think Dell's maintenance program also deletes the file - and with my Dell laptop my "worse laptop ever" it gets run a lot!! I'm not sure about the Dell maintenance because even that on the Dell laptop has stopped working Thanks Anthony Williams.
