When creating the gedcom have you tried"deselect people", then either "Range of Numbers" then enter each BK# individually. I just tried it and it did delete the 2 #s I entered. I.E: Range of Numbers" start with 4, end with 4 and it deleted it, then did the same with #5 and both were deleted. At present with BK7 there doesn't seem to be a system where I can specifically mark individuals as Private (i.e. do not send details about this person to the GEDCOM file but allow for recordkeeping of details for this person to be maintained in the BK program like you would for any other no matter how many times you export excluded information, do reports or group sheets on, etc.) The only workaround I can see for this at present is to keep 2 databases of the information you want to GEDCOM export and physically change the individual names to read Private and remove any events/facts that will display about each ! > individual in one database and not in the other and always use the excluded database to send GEDCOM exports from. This is a kind of boggy approach to handling this I believe. I would gladly publish the details in BK if there was a system that would cater better for handling situations like that on the web but at the moment there's not. It seems that I have to make improvisations in BK to adjust and convert them over as, for now, it still seems worthwhile going to other software to publish. > > Does John have a bandaid yet to assist with sorting out this dilemma or is work in this area still some time away? John, Ok on the Administrator Rights. I had done it thinking it might help my other problems I was having. My data folder is at: C:\Users\Patty|Dropbox\Genealogy\BK7 Main File\ I've had this laptop with Win8 since Dec 2012. I've been using BK6 and then BK7 since it looks like I downloaded the program in April. I only recently switched from Win8.0 to Win8.1. Rather Windows did the update for me. I didn't have a choice. I haven't had all these problems until just recently. I was using the program a lot back in October/November for this person I've been trying to get new reports printed for and I wasn't having these problems then and I was printing the same reports. We just replaced our desktop computer with a Win8.1 system last week. So, I can't even use another computer to see if Win8.1 is my problem. Jim, I'm not sure how to give full path with Win 8.1. Desktop > Patty > Dropbox > genealogy > BK7 main file Both it and the program are installed on the C:\ drive on my laptop. I was some weeks ago very happy when I made the reasonableness check and I saw the list with more than 100 cases where the age betwee two children less than 6,5 months. I tried exiting BK again and going back in with same problem. But, when I tried printing a group sheet for a "family of" rather than the range of number and the family of printed. Then, I tried the range of numbers report again and it worked fine, index and all. So, I've got what I needed, but not sure why I had to do what I did to make it work. I apologise that this has been asked in the past but may I have a quick answer again please? If, in the Name field, you wish to list a person with his or her prefix (Dr., Rev., Gen.. Ald., Lady, e.g.), how is this done so that the person is still found (Find F3) with their first and last name? For example, I have one James Adams in my database. I have prefixed his name in the Name field with "(Rev)." but he is not found with Find F3 as "James Adams". If as often happens you have a long list of people all with the same forename and surname, it helps to find the one you are looking for if, first, they are listed and, second, their prefixes are listed too. Thank you Bill Australia
To Bill Webster There are two different ways to do what you want. How do you want the name printed on most reports? Put that name in the regular Name field at the top. Then put the other name on the Names tab. Click Add Name at the bottom and pick either Birth name and type James Adam or else pick Current name and type Rev. James Adam If you have James Adam as the current name, then when you are searching for a name, you can turn on the check box to "also search alternate names" and then it will find him when you type James Adam John Steed ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Webster via" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2015 8:27 PM Subject: [BK] Finding people entered with a prefix > > I apologise that this has been asked in the past but may I have a quick > answer again please? > > If, in the Name field, you wish to list a person with his or her prefix > (Dr., Rev., Gen.. Then click in the Date field and press F3 on the keyboard and it will say <not empty> Then click Make list to Edit or Create Report. To Patty (geneamom) Did you type in the data for your friend, or was that a gedcom import? >From the main BK screen pick File, Re-Index database. Then run File, Quality Check. (if everyone has a problem, just Stop the quality check) If all children are not linked correctly, then perhaps the gedcom file was damaged. Gilles What do you know about the event/fact you are looking for? You could create a custom report with BK number other items like the event type and import it into Excel and sort it and then visually scan it look for the fact/event you are looking for. Is it possible to easily make a list of those people? If I go to *Lists*, *Word Search* then *Search Event*, I have to put either a date or place name. Since I don't remember these, I can't use this feature. Thank you.
