    1. [BK] Clickable links
    2. J. P. Gilliver (John)
    3. I saw the post asking for "Links to Evernote", and it made me wonder - how difficult would it be to make links to URLs (highlighted in some way - usually blue and underlined, and) clickable, wherever they occur, such as in person or event notes, or some of the source-page boxes? I don't know how other software detects URLs - I presume any of {starts with http}, {starts with www.}, or {has two or more dots in succession that aren't followed by a space}. -- J. P. Gilliver. 3. THANK YOU, JOHN!!  I didn't mean to imply that you were lax in replying and later realized you were busy getting 7.4 ready for distribution.  I thought someone else might have the answer but in my panic had forgotten where the 'old way'  was.  Worked wonderfully as usual. I wouldn't trade BK or this list for a million dollars! 3. hi All; Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble d/l the new 7.4 version?  Says it was viable as of June 6.   If it's just me, then I need to find my problem - if I can. Thanks Fran

    3. The program - bksetup7E3-3.EXE one need not keep because that is available on the web. However, I keep just the latest download version only as I then do not need to be Internet live to do a Re-Install - a rare need. My BK7 data I regularly back up. Note that, depending on how you work, and how much new data you input or change,, any more than the last three will mean your data does not have the latest changes. Of the current, as in "right now" data, I have a Begin work back-up before I make any changes. That allows me to discard new changes and go back to where the present work began. This might happen several times during a work session, but it means only a small amount and the most recent data is lost. At the end of the session, there is the standard "current data" back-up at the end of work. In addition there are the enduring back-ups on some other location vis USB, etc done weekly. I have back-ups going back several years, BK6, BK5 and the like. All useless now, of course. On an assortment of CDs, DVDs, USB, SD, media, but I keep them!! Keep only CURRENT data, John, Old data is Old data!! 3. I recomend 1-3 backup of the database. When I have the newest, Idelete the oldest. From an other computer I suncronise the data from my PC. That include more than the data from BK, also email, photp etc. That are all svaed in the sky. --- hilsen/regards Otto -#- Den 06.06.2019 14:14, skrev cullomsr--- via BK: > Ques: Is there any reason to keep back issues of BK-backup? 3. BK 7.3.4 - registered I got a new computer and when it was set up they changed my user name. ((I thought the old one was there but either it's disappeared or it wasn't there)   I have all my text/pic/media files in Dropbox using users L  and now user is F, when I try the "Fix Text/Picture Path" naturally BK is not finding it.   Is there a way to do it the "old" way where we typed in the old & new paths? 3. I too stopped using Wikitree - it's too cumbersome and overcrowded Fran L On 02/06/2019 10:47 p.m., Marsha Ensminger via BK wrote: > I have uploaded gedcoms to them in the past, but they may have made it impossible by now.  Their parsing of files was not very good.  They want you to type everything in. > > Marsha L. 3. I was, but it got so difficult and prescriptive, as to layout of addresses, etc, that I stripped my data out of all people only I was concerned with and stopped. 3. https://www.tamurajones.net/DownloadGEDCOM551AnnotatedEdition.xhtml I think the real problem with gedcom validation with WorldConnect Beta is the specification for the gedcom is not given. Changing the gedcom as show below shows no errors using standards only option with Gedcom Validator. 0 HEADs 1 SOUR BROSKEEP 2 VERS 7.4.1 WINDOWS 1 DEST BROSKEEP <=== avoid line limit warning 1 DATE 30 MAY 2019 1 CHAR ANSEL 1 FILE C:\Stewart\rootsweb.GED 1 GEDC 2 VERS 5.5.1 <=== changed to 5.5.1. 5.6 works also

Those of us whom JS has given a private(-ish) link to a trial version to fix some particular problem or add some particular feature (such as in my case make 'v' [or 'V'!] in the Location field copy the Location below, in the same way '"' copies the location above - which works well!), find that our version self-identifies as 7.4. I'm wondering what the plans for V8 are. The move to V7 mainly, AIUI, involved a change of the underlying database structure, which was probably necessary for further development, and definitely involved a huge amount of programming effort - for which I was willing to pay, although from the _user_ point of view, I don't think things changed much (we got the circle charts). I'm _hoping_ that V8 will involve a ditching of the old graphics-and-text engine for something more modern: I'd be willing to pay for that even if it didn't immediately give me new features, if it meant scrolling (and zooming - with buttons!) in charts _and reports_ worked more like more or less every other Windows prog. I now use, and I could switch between, say, ancestor chart, edit screen, locations-with-events list, and so on, without having to close each before I could see the other. (I'd live without dynamic updating.) Then V9 (again, for which I'd be willing to pay) could add features I can now only dream about (but some competing products already offer) - such as, for example, linking to faces in pictures, clickable charts, expand/collapse in charts, maps, ... (I do fear for the long-term future of BK. I used to _like_ its old-fashioned look - and still do, do some extent, in that I don't want any flashy feature that doesn't actually add usefulness - but I can't see it gaining many _new_ users, looking and working as it does - so I fear the revenue stream will dry up, as we diehard users die off.) -- J.
