To Michael Cant I found a bug in the program that would cause the error you are getting. I will give you fix tomorrow. To Michael Cant It is hard to say exactly what is causing the error. If you set the number of generations to 3 do you still get the error? If you change the Box width (name width) to larger or smaller, do you still get the error? If you want me to find out what the problem is exactly, you can send me private email with a compressed backup of your database and information on which person and which options you are using for the box chart. Or you could do a Split Database of just the descendants of that person to make a smaller database and send that. Hi all, Am using my registered Brothers Keeper 7 version: 7.0.49 On wanting to print a 2 generation box chart (2 gen because there are many descendants and only need the 2 gen) After clicking on start I get an error box saying Error 5, when I close the message BK tells me there is a problem with one person, I can see nothing wrong in his info entered, and if I then go to that persons father a 2 gen box chart with him in prints ok. Has anyone come up with this error please? Mick. IOW England
Jim I suggest GEViewer from Mudcreek software the CD version is free. http://www.mudcreeksoftware.com/genviewer_cdrom.htm This way nobody can modify the file which WILL happen in the library if the public has access to it. I don't even remember the first version I used. I have been in contact with the very small historical and genealogy society in a small mid-Western town. I have offered them my GEDCOM file, but they said they didn't have the facilities (they have some old computer) to use it, but suggested I sent it to their small library. I will do this. However, I thought it would be nice to send all of my "stuff" in a nicer "format," e. g., BK. So I am going to send them my data files, text files, and images. I am also going to send them the latest version (7.0.49) of BK (without the registration number, of course). I would like to advise them of the limitations, if any, of the unregistered version. Could someone please let me know what they are. Incidentally, if they tell me they like it and would use it I'll register it for them. Of course, John, I would do any of this, except the latter <grin>, only with your permission, John. To Jim Mayor Yes, you may give them a trial copy of Brother's Keeper. Most of the features work in the trial copy. Here are most of the features that only work in the registered version: When you register the Windows version of Brother's Keeper, you will get a password that will turn on these features: The ability to create RTF Rich Text Format files for the book reports, the ability to print a six generation ancestor chart, and the ability to do a soundex search with the word search. (Soundex codes were used in U.S. census records.) Also the password will let you print one page from a long report from the Preview screen, and print pictures of the children (not just the parents) on the Group Sheets. Also you can pick Other, Picture summary and display or print a sample of all your pictures. You also have an option to print Odd or Even pages only on certain reports and exclude details about living people on some reports (which should be done before you publish on the Internet) You can also make HTML pages (web pages) from the Group sheet screen, Descendant Box Chart, and Ancestor chart. Also on the Edit screen you can Add custom events. You can also run the new Utilities to Compare two databases, or search for a duplicate in your database Also when you register you will get the printed manual, technical support from John Steed, and discounts on future updates. Hi Can I printout a Family group list of (families), as I do a gedcom export into another program and there are families missing So i just wanted to have a printout as they are on different OS Systems, to compare Cheers Peter
To Peter Glover Are you asking how to send the Family Group Sheet report to a file? Go to the Group Sheet setup screen and pick either File, Create TXT file or File, Create HTML files. If that is not what you are asking, please ask your question again about what you are trying to do. Jim, I use Virtual Box to run my Windows program on Linux, and BK works fine with that. Previously, I had a lot of problems with Wine. But VB seems OK.
