hello Jacques I have BK 6 and 7 installed and both work fine . the icon is still in the task bar when open Christine God Bless
I have just installed Windows 10 and when I activate BK6 its icon does not remain on the task bar. If I click on the desktop icon a second time it tells me BK6 is already running but I can't get to it without an icon on the task bar. Does anyone else have this problem and how did you solve it? In 6 and later, children can be added to a person without there having to be a spouse. He thinks BK7 still recognises *UNKNOWN. I do get what you are saying, though, about truly unknown (or at least undisclosed!) fathers (though probably much less commonly mothers). -- J. P. Gilliver. Hi John, To me, if a father is Unknown, it means that on the birth certificate, or baptism record, or both, that is how he is described. Or that the entry is blank. I've been using my BK with dropbox without problems for many years. I upgraded to windows 10 the other day and all my dropbox files are listed as read only. It's not a normal read only though, as it refuses to be removed. I tried everything I could think of. Finally read someting on line somewhere... and had to go to properties, advances, sharing and share the location with my user name. It seems to have worked but it can't be the way it's supposed to be. I haven't seen anyone else with the same problem, but thought it might help to get it out there if someone else runs into it. To follow up on my previous post I should say that I was using BK Version 7.1.2 and that I did re index the data. I have gone to the BK site and tried to upgrade to Version 7.1.3. It seemed to go through ok, at least I followed all the prompts and it seemed to download and install ok. However, when I start BK again and check the Help, it shows I’m still on Version 7.1.2 and the problem described before remains. I have restarted the computer but that didn’t change anything. Windows 7; BK7.1 Everything has been working fine up until tonight when I attempted to add a source to note on the edit page. I clicked on the S and the add source page came up but with a warning box in the center, which read “Damaged data file. The Source record number does not match the position: 1459” This box has an OK button and a red corner X. Clicking on either the button of the X has no affect other than to add 1 to the number following “position:”. Continuing to press either the X or the OK simply increases the number shown. No other buttons outside the warning box on the add source page work - the file, the X, the Select new Source, the Create New Source, the Cancel – all do nothing. I hit the OK button in the warning box about 50 times but nothing happens other than increasing the number. The only way I could escape all of this was Ctrl-Alt-Delete to close the program. From the edit page if I click an S already there it takes me to the source page as expected. The problem only happens when adding a source. What now? More from that draft Pier 53 tag: Unfortunately, their son John G. Payne died, unmarried and childless, at the age of 30 in a drowning accident. BK lets me add that he never married, but I can't see how to add the childlessness: "No children from this marriage" and "Number of children (family)" both refuse to proceed without a spouse. Perhaps either "childless" or a spouse-unspecific "number of children" field/event? I put in an assumed common parent who I name "Conjecture". Doesn't have the "unknown" baggage but catches the eye and is obviously not a real name. On 08/02/15, J. P. John, Would it be possible to design an ancestor fan chart with three parents of the individual? I'm thinking of my nephew - father, mother, and the step-mother who raised him.
