    1. Re: [BITTINGER] where did the Bittingers come from?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: grimm149 Surnames: Bargerstock, Best, Bittinger Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bittinger/82.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for the reply to our Bittinger family. I don't read or speak german, most of my tranlation has been done by a friend in Georgia. All the Birkenstock/Bargerstock letters I have I paid to have tranlated a number of years ago. I have proved the Birkenstock & Snyder families came from the same area in Germany and may have traveled together to America. They intermarried in Armstrong Co., PA and lived in the same area. Now the Bittinger family I have I believe came from Franklin County, PA. That county name is listed on the death notice of John Bittinger who married for the second time to Catherine Jubee Bargerstock Neal. Catherine was the widow of Robert Orr Neal/Neil. No parents were listed on John's death registation at the Armstrong County Courthouse, Kittanning, Pa. I'm just not sure who his parents are at this time. There is another Bittinger family, but I can not connect our John Bittinger to this family in Armstrong Co., PA. That would be the Cornelius Bitting! er & Margaret E. Baughman family. Cornelius Bittinger died 1900 and is buried in the St. John German Reformed Church Cemetery, Belknap, Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. Cornelius Bittinger parents were Charles Bittinger & Mary Best. The children listed to Charles & Mary Best Bittinger are: Cornelius, Sarah, Andrew, Margaret(Peggy), Lavina. Our John Bittinger was born March 2, 1832. Franklin Co. PA. and died April 14, 1897 in Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. Nothing in the history books on Armstrong County gave me any lead at all. I appreciate your information and will keep it on file and hope it will help in my research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
