    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ddroun1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bittinger/82.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There's a village in North Rhine- Westphalia named "Bittingen," and the road to the village is called the "Bittinger Strasse." I visited the village one day during a trip through Germany- the terrain was remarkably similar to Western Maryland / Southwestern PA. Soest, a picturesque city a few miles from Bittingen, has a hall of records that goes back to the fourteenth century. Someone proficient in German might be able to find some links between the Western MD Bittingers and the German Bittingen. Author: Lynn_Gorski Surnames: Bittinger, Wiland Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bittinger/183/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to locate the gravesite of Henry Bittinger, Sr. (1778-1852) and his wife Barbara Bauser. Are the churches in Berlin and Pine Hill of Somerset County where Henry was baptised and confirmed still standing? Henry's name may be spelled Bittner. Also, do you know where their son Daniel (1804-1876) and his wife Phebe Wiland (1811-1876) are buried. The reason for my inquiry is that my 86 year old Mom who lives in Atlanta wants to visit the gravesites of ancestors she has never visited - I plan to make the trip with her in September, but I am having a terrible time locating gravesites. Author: coveroad1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bittinger/181/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please folks there must be someone among us who can help a family locate their biological roots. These people are our blood, our cousins, they deserve any help we can offer and our respect. Most of us have made a connection with our ancestors, let us help someone who has not made that root connection.yet. The sharing of any clues would be so appreciated, so helpful, and give a family hope, make them feel welcome, locate members of their family, share the connection. Anna Catherine "Annie" BITTINGER, dob 3 Sep 1907, dod 9 Mar 1983, daughter of Joseph Henry "Joe" BITTINGER and Eliza Jane BROADWATER. Anna had 4 children prior to marriage, raised by others, 3 sons, and a daughter, 1 of those children, a son (the subject of this inquiry) was born Edward Lee BITTINGER. Edward was given up for adoption to a couple who raised him in OHIO. The adopting family renamed Edward, Daniel. We all deserve to know, and be part of our history, relatives, family lineage, share a branch of that family tree. Anna was briefly married to James Lewis FAZENBAKER, who previously was married to BEEMAN sisters. Edward, Daniel "Dan" was born in 1948. His son Eric is attempting to make the family connection, collect information and research for his father and the family. They would like nothing more than to obtain that family connection. Please if anyone can provide that piece that will allow them to communicate and connect with family members, they would be so very happy and grateful. Your family's antique photograph album has been located! I am Robert D. King and in my travels, I see family photos lost in antique stores and for sale on ebay. I think that is sad knowing that there are family tree researchers and descendants, that would treasure those photos. So I have decided to try and do something about it by returning as many as I can to their rightful families. So I buy photos with names and dates or places on them and list them on my webpage, so descendants of these lost souls can find them and bring them home. The thousands of photographs are mostly from the 1800's and include Tintypes, Daguerreotypes, Cabinet Cards, Carte-de-visites, Personal Picture Postcards, Photo Albums and Yearbooks. Recently, I was able to acquire the following album: Doverspike - Bittinger's Tintype Photo Album from Armstrong County, PA. This Civil War era album is 6"x 5"x 2.5". It has 30 photos inside and they are all tintypes! On the inside cover it says "Emma C. Bittinger" The names in the album are: John Doverspike John D. - also it says "Aunt Leuina"? 2. Loretta, I can't tell you where your BITTINGER's originated from, but I can tell you where mine came from -- Eimsheim, Rhinehessen, Germany. My great grandfather, PHILIPP BITTINGER settled in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois after leaving Germany as a young man. Perhaps a few areas in the US to check out would be Bittinger, Maryland and the state of Pennsylvania seems to be a settling spot as well.
