Bitner, 88, resident of the Fairways at Brookline, State College, formerly of Mill Hall, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, in the Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College. He was born on June 9, 1922 in Mill Hall, a son of the late Grover C. and Sara E. Eckley Bitner. Bob retired from Litton Industries, Williamsport as a tool and die maker and had previously worked at Sylvania in Mill Hall until it closed. He was a member of the American 623 in Beech Creek, a life member of B.P.O.E #182 in Lock Haven, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Mill Hall and was presented with a George F. Hixon medal from the Kiwanis Club. He had been a member of Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Company and had been a member of the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall. Bob was a US Navy veteran of WWII, serving as a Gunners Mate 3/C. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Medal. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and stamp collecting. He is survived by two sons, Scott M. Bitner of Centre Hall and Robert C. Bitner II of Canyon Country Ca.; one sister, Sarah Lou Ingraham of Cumming Ga.; one niece, Cynthia Ingraham of Cumming Ga.; two grandsons and three nephews. He was preceeded in death by a brother, Richard E. Bitner. Services will be held Saturday Aug. 7, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the Dean K. Wetzler, Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St. Mill Hall with pastor Susan Champion of Bald Eagle United Presbyterian officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall. Visitation will be Saturday from 1-3 p.m in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Dean K. Wetzler, Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St. Mill Hall. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
