Bitner of Providence Place, Chambersburg, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Chambersburg Hospital after a brief illness. Garnet was born in Williamson, Pennsylvania, on October 11, 1923. He was the son of the late Harry and Della Mae (Kriner) Bitner. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Bingaman) Bitner who passed away on April 17, 1998, and one sister Catherine Divelbiss. Surviving are: daughter Constance Shatzer (husband Thomas), sister Virginia Duffy (husband Harold), brother H. Robert Bitner (wife Doris), grandsons Erik Shatzer, (wife Kate), Brett Shatzer, (fiancée Katrina), three great-granddaughters, and a very much loved friend. "Garney" served in the U.S. Army and was a devoted member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, and the Greene Township Lions. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Memorial services will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2 PM, with the Rev. John Rauch and the Rev. Michael Baumgardner, Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church.
