This cemetery is located around Limestone, Tenn in Washington county just across the line from Greene County. I don't know who Dobson's father was, but I do know this. The Nancy J. Bitner buried here is Nancy Jane Broyles, the dtr of Ezekiel Broyles & Catherine Bays. Go to this website for your complete Broyles lineage: http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/broyles/html/d0007/g0000031.htm#I1 Nancy Jane Broyles married 28 Sep 1845 Washington Co. Tennessee to Samuel L. Bitner b. abt 1815 Washington Co. Tennessee. Samuel is the brother of Nicholas Bitner, and both sons of Samuel Bitner and Margaret GRAHAM. Margaret is the daughter of James Graham, Sr & Sarah whom we think also was a Broyles, but we haven't proven it yet. Margaret Graham had a sister Ruth Graham, whom I believe to be my 3rd great grandmother who married Henry Jackson Click, Sr in Washington Co Tenn around 1800. I live in Tenn and just discovered this last week and have been doing a lot of research piecing the family together. Ref: Washington Co. Bitner, Nov 19, 1818-April 11, 1895 Bitner, Teallie, Feb 27, 1878-Sept 21, 1946 I just found this information and apparently the reason that Nicholas went to Illinois in the first place was because his brother was already there. It appears that they moved around together as well because Samuel and Nancy end up in Texas on the 1880 census. I have the 1880 census CD's and found them listed as BUTNER. I haven't found them on the 1850 census yet, but they may have been in Greene co, I just haven't looked at the census indexes yet to see. Hi Jack, Sorry it has taken me awhile to say thanks for the infomation. I am researching the Bitners for a friend of mine. I haven't really looked into the census yet for this family. I have been busy with my own family. But come this fall I hope to do a little research on the Bitners. Thanks again for the information. Sincerely, Peggy Showalter
I have some information about Albert Bitner. Contact me and I will share. Charlotte
any relation to Jacob Bitner born in 1758 in York PA. Fathers' name was Michael Bitner.
My family lived in Harrisburg from about 1890 to about 1970 originally from Lancaster PA and in the 1700's York county. Emigrated from Swaigern Germany. I believe I saw census records with more recent emigrants from germany ( from Harrisburg Census records).
Might any of you have you heard of a group of siblings with the Bittner or Büttner surname, who were orphaned and traveled to the United States during the mid 1800s? One of these siblings would be Henry (Heinrich?) Bittner, who was born c. 1850 in Saxony. Henry eventually settled in Cannelton, Perry County, IN. He married Charlotte Birlenbach, whose family had moved from Nassau when she was an infant in 1849 or 1850. They had a son named Fredrick Wilhelm Bittner, who had a son named Darwin William Bittner. One of Henry's siblings may have been "George" Bittner, who lived in Perry County during the 1860s. Please let me know if you have heard any of these names.
I apologize to those of you who are on more than one list and will get multiple copies of this request. I'm looking for the parents of Elizabeth Bishop Bitner born in Somerset, Somerset County, PA 1826 and died 1895 in Laughlintown, Westmoreland County, PA. They had 7 children. I'll be glad to share what information I have on their families. John Bitner married Elizabeth Hatter on 11/3/1790, per records of Washington County, Tennessee. Does anyone know who their children were? Who their parents were? Where this couple died and are buried? I am still trying to connect my Nicholas Bitner to parents. Thanking you, Dorie
Nicholas Bitner was born about 1809 in Washington County, Tennessee. He married Mary E. Williams in Washington County on 7/21/1836. They had the following children, all born in Washington County, Tn: Joel W., born about 1849 Samuel L., born about 1838 Margaret J., born about 1839 John P., born about 1841 Mary (Polly), born about 1844 Sarah M., born about 1847 Amanda E., born about 1852 Nicholas & family are documented in the 1850 Washington Co., Tn cenus. He is next found in the 1860 Hardin Co., Tn census. Mary E. Williams Bitner is missing from this census, so I am thinking she died between 1852-1860. Joel & Mary's marriage is documented in "Early East Tennessee Marriages, Vol 1, Grooms" by Sistler. I loose track of Nicholas after the 1860 census. Is anyone else researching this family, who could share infomation? Who are Nicholas' and Mary's parents? There is a marriage in 1806 between Samuel L. Bitner and Margaret Graham, Green Co., Tennessee. I later track this couple to Washington Co. where Samuel was a surveyor and farmer. I believe this couple are Nicholas' parents, but have no proof????? Also when and where did Nicholas die? I next find my ancestor, Joel W. Bitner, in the 1870 census for Blissville, Jefferson Co., Illinois. He is married to Martha L. Johnson. Joel and Martha later moved to Wilbarger County, Texas, where they raised a large family, including my grandmother, Minnie Lula Bitner (later married a Jones). Would be happy to share information with anyone else who might be researching this line.
I have connected my Bitner line in the 1850 census of Washington County, Tennessee. Nicholas Bitner, age 41, listed as a farmer wife - Mary E., age 34 children: Samuel L. age 12, Margaret J. age 12, John P. age 9, Polly age 6, Sarah M. age 3, and Joel W. age 1. I again find my Bitner line in the 1860 census. This time they are located in Hardin County, Tennessee. Nicholas is listed as a farmer. Mary E. is not listed. I am assuming she has died, probabley after 1852. The only other new listing in 1860 is a daughter, Amanda, age 8. Joel W. Bitner migrated to Texas, where he settled in Wilbarger County, Texas. Can anyone else connect to this line? Also, in the 1850 Washington County, Tennessee census there is another family of Bitners listed: Thomas Bitner, age 30, wife Clarissa, age 24. Children are Mary E (age 3) and Jacob (age 1). The Thomas Bitner family are again listed in the 1860 census for Washington County, with additional children: Margaret, William C. and Martha. Is there a connection between the two families that anyone knows of. Any help is appreciated.
I have been in contact with a descendant of Adam BITNER (William Jr., William Sr.) who describes a genetic disease in that Bitner line. The disorder is called Hereditary Ataxia. Its actually a family of genetic disorders and I'm trying to find out what type this person has and how its transmitted through the generations. This is an important find in Bitner lineage. Have any of you found any reference to any member of your Bitners that is described as being overly clumsy as if constantly drunk, mental retardation, dementia, blindness, sensory loss, seizures? Hello, I just subscribed to this list and thought I'd place a query to see if there is someone out there who researches this family, even though, I don't give it much hope... However, here it goes. I have an apprenticeship document of a Samuel BITNER which was passed down from my grandfather to my father. My father remembers that my grandfather told him that Samuel was his gr grandfather. As of today, I couldn't find out if this is the case. On Samuel's apprenticeship document, I found the following information: 1. Samuel was from Wladistawow, Poland. 2. Samuel learned the trade of a Smith in Warsaw on 29 Apr 1838 and ended it on 24 Apr 1843 3. From the dates on the document, I would place the date of birth around 1821. Samuel had a son, Hermann BITTNER. I don't know much about this Hermann. I received this information from family members. This Hermann also had a son Hermann. Hermann II was born on 04 Apr 1860 in Adammow, Poland and died aft 1943 in Halle/Saale, Germany. Hermann II was also a Smith and was married twice. He had at least one son with his first wife, which he named Hermann. Hermann II married second, Berta BRADACZ. She was born in Poland and her parents were weavers in Lodz, Poland. Hermann II and Berta had at least three children: Adolf BÜTTNER (my grandfather), b: 14 Jun 1901 in Lodz, Poland, d: 23 Jun 1976 in Halle/Saale, Germany. Frieda BÜTTNER, b: 29 Oct 1902 probably in Lodz, Poland. Otto BÜTTNER, b: 15 Dec 1906 pobably in Lodz, Poland, d: 1980 in Halle/Saale, Germany. These three children were named in the citizenship document when Hermann II and his wife immigrated to Germany which was dated 04 Nov 1920. If anybody is researching this family, or has BIT(T)NERs from Wladistawow, Adamow or Lodz, please contact me, Sylvia [email protected]
