George Hull Bitner was a minister in the area during the turn of century. His son Richard Mathias Bitner moved to Lansdale, outside of Philadelphia and opened a pharmacy and was also postmaster. George Hull's father was Mathias and lived from 1846-1902. His father was Jacob Bitner. If anyone has info PLEASE let me know!

Somewhere along the way my GEDCOM dropped the "or" from "Jacob / John" Sorry for the confusion. Oh, I have seen a reference to our Jacob/John on the Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, PA census: http://www.pa-roots.com/~lancaster/census/cocalico1790.html. It fits about the right timeframe and I had seen other documentation that John/Jacob was from Lancaster Co, PA.

    3. Hello, My apologies for cross-posting to several lists. I'm trying to find my 3g grandparents. They had at least four children: Levi Pitner (born Greene Co. PA in 1847) - blacksmith George W. Pitner (born PA about 1845) John Smith Pitner (born Clarion PA) Hatti Pitner (unknown birthplace) Levi and George later settled in the WV panhandle, marrying sisters Annie and Ella Maybury. I have seen George's name spelled Petner, and am not certain if their parents spelled their name Pitner or not. Levi's father was born in Ohio and mother born in NJ. John Smith Pitner may have had a different mother, born in Pennsylvania (all according to census information). I have found no connection to the Tennessee and other Southern states Pitner branch. This is not the same person as Levi C. Pitner, who was born about the same time but resided in the south, nor is it the Levi who resided in Illinois.... This has been a puzzling brick wall for me. I have literally gone page by page through some censuses for WV counties and found no trace of them before 1870 (When I found Levi listed in the 1870 Mercer Co. census). If anyone can shed any light on this family, I'd be grateful! Debbie Pitner Moors

Jacobs Wife name was Sir Name unknown. Some time between 1840 and 1850 Barnet went to Terra Haute Ind. I believe one of Daniels sons and a Daughter moved to Terre Haute Ind . They were there when there mother died because they had to come back to Pa. for the Funeral.Daniels son was Edward.

He was married to Anne who was born in 1801 she was 65 when she died. Jacob died in Mercer Co. Pa. He was from Neshannock TWP. They had 4 children that we know of there was Thomas Park Bitner, Barnet Bitner(my Great Grandfather),Daniel Bitner and Tabitha Ann Bitner this is all we know we are trying to find out more about Jacobs family.Thanks Roger

I am not sure who his father is but it is either Matthias Bittner or William Bitner Sr. They both had a John Jacob. The other Jacob I have is Mathias Bittner's son who probably is my 5 th great grandfather and father of my 4th great grandfather John Jacob above. Jacob was born in 1774 in lancaster co cocalico twp pa. i have more info if this is your jacob. jim
