Hello List I am new and need some beginner tips . this is my problem my great grandfather Robert Sylvester Carter was born in Cheshire England Date Dec. 31 year one obit for him say's Dec 31 1869 , another obit. say's 1870 ,and his citizenship papers say Dec 31, 1872 ugh. birth place both obituaries say Chester Cheshire England , Citizenship papers say Lower Tranmere One photo of his mother taken by Watson Bro. Birkenhead abt 1860 or so (very strange Clothing) His mothers name is Ellen E. ? father is john Carter John carter Had children with his first wife and became a widow married another who also was a widow with children and then had more children together names of siblings for my great grandfather in a family bible 1) Joseph married Claira migrated to Australia Joseph did travel to the us. to visit his brother Robert stayed about 2 weeks and returned to Australia around 1920 or so is when he visited I have a photo of the two. 2) Edward 3) John married with 5 children 4) Mary (Polly) 1 son 5) Samuel died in 1920 in a shipyard married with children 6) William Carter . later I was told that all the children went to Australia but Robert lived in Canada for 2 years . one family member told me someone use to go visit the uncles in Canada . there is just not enough or consistent data for me to figure this mess out Robert was the only one who came to the United states can anyone out there tell me how I can start this Project very frustrated Begging for Help Anita Get more from the Web. Anita GET A BLACKBOARD I find it helps.. See if you can get the 1841 and 1851 census data and compile family lists then you can see who vanished when, maybe.. Did you try shipslists?? Maybe someone has access to early directory that would give you a start..
