I bought a very interesting book yesterday Moreton and Districts Patriots 1914-1919 by Stephen McGreal ISBN 1901231151 Stephen is a voluntary military researcher for a local radio station, specialising in the Great war (WW1) and has researched each soldier in some detail Book contains biographical info, photos, details of service, regiments, newspaper articles and more on the soldiers from this area Blurb on the back reads "The tale of a nation at war, focussing on a tranquil village, its war memorials and the servicemen from throughout Merseyside commemorated there on. The narrative skilfully combines the social aspects of a rural village with the apolyptic events of a world at war, at the time paying tribute to the regions servicement who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War for civilisation" Stephen requests on the back page "My next project concerning the Great War will be the history of the 15th and 16th battalions of the Cheshire Regiment better known as the "Birkenhead Bantams". The members of thses battalions, originally deemed unsuitable for military service due to the lack of height, proved their worth on the battlefields of France and Flanders. I would be extrmemly grateful for information or loans of artifacts relating to these volunteers" He lists a phone number that I'll pass on to anyone who can help him Caryl
