Here is mine: This is a tribute to: My father Norman MATTHEWS from Birkenhead who was a Royal Marine in WW2 1939-45. He was a HO Volunteer aged 19. He was a gunner with MNBDO1 and served in Egypt, Ceylon, Crete, France and Burma. He never talked about the war except to say that they had to escape over the mountains in Crete. His hair turned white when he was 21. He caught malaria in Ceylon and for the rest of his life he always felt the cold My great uncle Thomas P CARNEY originally from Dublin but lived in Liverpool and later Hull. He was a drummer boy in the Boer war and was awarded the DCM. He was a CSM in WW1 in the 2nd East Yorks and was awarded another DCM and the MSM. His brother Sgt John CARNEY was also awarded the DCM in WW1 and also served with the 2nd East Yorks. He died in 1918 after contracting TB in the trenches, he was 36 and is buried in Litherland cemetery Liverpool "we will remember them" Caryl List admin
