Debbie I have quite a number of Dickenson/Dickinson references from Liverpool, mostly a bit early for you (1770-1820), so if you get back a generation earlier, I might be of more help. I do have a reference to a Thomas Dickinson in the 1841 census age 19, living with James Dickinson(35) Customs, and Elizabeth (40), both born in county, as well as several ?siblings. This is in James Street. In 1851 there is Thomas, a carpenter in HO107/2181, fol 81 (this index entry includes a Margaret and 3 male children, noted as infants and scholars - there's no occupation for Margaret so I "assume" it's a wife???) and a there is a shipwright in HO107/2177 (all born Liverpool) In HO 107/2182 are Thomas - HM customs, born Croston, and a victualler born Garston. The 1851 is indexed (I think it's now online at Family History online) but these references were noted down some years ago when not all areas were covered, so it doesn't mean he's not there! None of these jumps out as being "your" Thomas. As I said, if you get back a generation, let me know and I will see if I have noted anything down that could be of use to you! Hi Ruth Many thanks for your reply. I've really hit a brick wall on this one, so I'll give you the exact details just in case something rings a bell. I have the 1851 census index for Liverpool and can't find them there. I have had an agent search for Margaret Anne's birth without luck and keep looking on freebmd for a marriage between Thomas Dickinson and Ada Brown. I haven't had a search done for the marriage, as it could easily be a second marriage in either Birkenhead or Liverpool. You'll understand this more when you look below.
