If this is your family you can now get the marriage certificate instead of the birth for Margaret and take the family back a generation? 3. Thanks, I have what information I need about Albert and Emily. It's actually some of the other links I'm looking for. Albert HASTINGS had some other brothers. One of them was my great grandfather, Jacob HASTINGS, who died in 1906. I have wondered if any of the children born between 1901 and 1906 belonged to Jacob and his wife Ellen (ADAMS) HASTINGS. I suspect that one of the Margarets and one of the Alberts belong to Albert and Emily, but wondered where the others come in. Thanks for the help, but I'll have to order certificates, I guess. 3. Two possible work-rounds. Register offices are not allowed to give out information before you buy a cert, but they ARE allowed to confirm specific details. If you phone up and ask nicely they can confirm which children have the 'correct' parents so you only order the right ones. Eg You can ask, are the parents named as Jacob HASTINGS and Ellen formerly ADAMS? And they say yes or no. I have used this method many times to confirm I had the right person before sending off a cheque. Method two: see if you can find marriages for the children. If you can identify the church, you can then contact the local record office for photocopies of the records. These should include fathers' details and if you are lucky, one or more siblings as witnesses. The photocopies are much cheaper than actual certs.
