Hi All This is my first time on a mail list, so please forgive me any errors. I have had much trouble trying to locate my gr grandfather's history before he immigrated into Australia in 1877. On his first marriage he listed Birkenhead as his birthplace, however on his second he listed Hawarden, Flintshire. His details are: John George WILLIAMS born about 1852, father George Wright WILLIAMS, mother Mary BELLIS. Anyone have any ideas? Regards Donna Eshuys Noosa, Qld, Australia

Hello Donna I haven't any information about your query, but thought you'd like to hear a tale about Hawarden The locals used to pronounce it, probably still do, as HARDEN I saw a program on British television many years ago, and a soldier was telling a story about a German Spy, who was posing as a British soldier, getting caught, because he told a comrade that he came from HAY WARDEN. Unfortunately for the spy, the person he told knew the area and the correct way to pronounce Hawarden.
