    1. John Hayes Customs Officer & Son
    2. Mike Hayes
    3. Hi List Looking for help with a HAYES enquiry. I have just bought my 2nd Great Grandfather John Hayes's marriage certificate who was born in abt 1863 in Parkgate. In the 1881 census he is recorded as the grandson of John & Margaret Hayes (both from Ireland) and living at 162 Beckwith Street Birkenhead. John Hayes is 71 Margaret 65 and John the elders occupation is Officer in H.M.Customs. John the grandson's marriage certificate says his father was a Customs Officer, John himself is an engine fitter's apprentice in 1881 and in 1882 just a fitter when he married Mary Jane Wills. This becomes an engine fitter on his son Robert Wills Hayes's birth certificate in 1883. I am trying to find John's father John the 2nd (son of John and Margaret ~are you still with me confusing when having the same name of offspring!) and whether his occupation is that of John the first and who he married. John the 3rd disappears from the census in 1891 when his wife and sons are living in 57 Duke Street with Mary's mother Maria Wills. Up until I got this marriage certificate I was tracing the wrong John Hayes. Is there a contact for tracing Customs Officers? Regards Mike Hayes PS I hope it does not come across as confusing as it looks!! --------------------------------- Win a BlackBerry device from O2 with Yahoo!. Enter now.
