    3. Hi There, I am new to your list, I live in Victoria Australia. I have joined your group to try and solve my on going puzzle. The name that I am having so much trouble with is Carroll. I have got back to Richard Carroll who was born approx 1835-6. On each census records he states that he was born in Eastham Cheshire, I have search but with no results because I have been told there was no Church in Eastham for those years. I have found a Richard Carroll who's age fits on the 1841 census living in Birkenhead which looks like Bk Chester Street. None of the Family names seem to fit, but I was wondering if anyone would know how close it is to Eastham and is it possible they baptised children when living in Birkenhead and it be classed as part of Eastham.? I hope there is someone who knows the area, and of a few surrounding Churches. I have Richard married with his wife and Children for later years, that is easy. What I would love to know is his Father & Mother names. Please can anyone advice, I would be so very grateful. My best wishes, Pat.

    3. Well if you put eastham cheshire genuki into google and click on the top hit you will get info including a picture of the church. The registers are in the record office so presumably you can get a photoopy from them. There shouldnt be any research charges since your details are pretty specific. the only problem you might have is the currency/payment thing but perhaps they take credit cards these days. 3. Hi Pat, Eastham is 5 miles south of Birkenhead. Birkenhead as a township in 1841 was only 20 years old having grow from a population of 200 in 1821 to 8,223, its main Church St Mary's being built in 1819. Prior to Birkenhead's development, Tranmere was the main near township. The main church here is St Catharine's Church Road. The main road from Birkenhead to Eastham in 1841 would be Old Chester Road as it is now known. This highway traverses the Wirral towards Chester the Principal County Town via Bebington and Bromborough, both have Churches St Andrews and St Barnabus respectively. I think it right to say that Eastham although a very old hamlet developed with the expansion of the ferry services to Liverpool and prior to that, community affiliations would have been focused around the above villages or possibly Hooton, Willaston, Childer Thornton or Great Sutton. The above is just an overview of the area at a given point in time not a comprehensive history, the hamlets and villages of Wirral changed beyond peoples comprehension in the space of 50 years. ----- Original Message ----- From: "patluv57" <patluv57@iprimus.com.au> To: <BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2006 3:00 AM Subject: [BKHD-Wirral] Carroll > Hi There, > I am new to your list, I live in Victoria Australia. > I have joined your group to try and solve my on going puzzle. > The name that I am having so much trouble with is Carroll. > I have got back to Richard Carroll who was born approx 1835-6.
