    3. I'm not sure if this will help, but thought it was worth suggesting. I've found their contact team very responsive. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/?homelink=main_military Find out which of the services the individual served in - the army, Royal Navy (including Royal Marines) or Royal Air Force. Any further details of the regiment and battalion, ship or squadron will also speed things up. You might get someone here to point you in the right direction perhaps http://www.royalnavalmuseum.org/ A D-Day Veteran friend of mine found one of his relatives who had gone down with a ship off Cornwall on a Memorial list in Portsmouth. Those circumstances were odd when there was very little activity off that coastline. 3. Janet Thanks for that. I've been pleased with the help I've had and am now pretty sure the destroyer in question was HMS Derwent.
