Hello List A recent message mentioned St Werburghs. Co-incidentally I was looking for info on St W's in the last few days, as a relation, Michael HANAGHAN was married there in 1850. Google revealed a few references to St W's Place, St W's Square etc, but not St W's chapel Can anyone tell me where it was - Birkenhead itself or nearby? Regards Bruce Interests: HANAGHAN (B'head area 1850s - 1920s), ATKIN (B'head & Liverpool 1880s - 1920s)
Bruce St. Werburgh's Chapel is now the main R.C. church in Birkenhead. It is situated on Borough Road, right opposite Central Station. My g.grandfather was married there in 1854. I notice, from the cert., that the address was given as Grange Lane. Being an R.C. marriage, the local Registrar was present. Hope this helps John -----Original Message----- From: bruce atkin [mailto:batkin@vtown.com.au] Sent: 14 August 2006 13:11 To: BIRKENHEAD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BKHD-Wirral] St Werburghs Chapel Hello List A recent message mentioned St Werburghs. I've always thought of St w's as being in Grange Rd (formerly Grange Lane) but of course the plot goes right through to Borough Rd.
