I have used the Ancestry immigration lists looking for some members of the Gorst family from that went to the USA. and have found some of them. However I was unable to find the head of the family, one Robert Gorst (or his wife Martha), who was born 1796 Northwich and died in Mazomanie, Dane Co. USA 1877. He was said to have gone there to establish the British Temperance Emigration Society in 1846. Others of the family, who may have gone independently, have been located, but not Robert. He married 1815 Martha Brown (b. 1799 Liverpool). Their children were Sara (1816 married William Hughes and probably stayed behind), Thomas (1818, left on "Finland" 1846 with wife and child), Mary (1821, left 1845 on "Petersburgh" with husband David Harrop), Charles (1824 left with Mary and David), Fannie (1828 died in USA as Fannie Reeve, so obviously went, though not found), John (1826, left with David and Mary) I wonder if anyone with access to the 1841 and 1851 census records could please check if he/they appears thereon, which might give me some clues. Details or copies of any finds on the census records would be appreciated. Any help appreciated John (in hot, sweaty, drought affected, bushfire ravaged, but otherwise o.k. Australia)
may have gone out a couple of years sooner than you thought. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigmvhs/mazohist/page107.html Judy On 10 Dec 2006, at 09:19, John Williams wrote: > I have used the Ancestry immigration lists looking for some members > of the Gorst family from that went to the USA. and have found some > of them. > > However I was unable to find the head of the family, one Robert > Gorst (or his wife Martha), who was born 1796 Northwich and died in > Mazomanie, Dane Co.
