    1. [BKHD] baptism certificate puzzles
    2. Fred & Joan Waring
    3. I have an 1875 baptism record from St Mary's in Birkenhead which includes an indecipherable name. The name starts with "Ve......" but that is all I can be sure about. The address of Mr John Ve & Mrs. Martha Ve is 143 Price Street. Mr. V was a furniture dealer.. Possible readings of the name include Vemabled, Venabled, Vemables, Verables, etc. Can anyone, possibly somebody with easy access to the 1881 or 1871 census clarify for me what the name actually is. There is a second puzzle about this baptism, certificate which perhaps somebody can clear up. The baptism is for John Waring, the younger brother of my grandfather Andrew. The parents column of the certificate lists Mr. & Mrs. Ve.. but I feel fairly confident that the mother was actually Ann Waring. So what does this discrepancy mean? Were Mr. & Mrs. Ve the godparents? Was Mr. Ve the actual father? Why isn't the actual mother (shown as an unwed mother of John in 1881) listed? fred waring jfwaring@compuserve.com Any suggestions/speculations about the second puzzle would be appreciated.
