List My gr-grandfather, Thomas Ramsbottom, grew up in the Dock Cottage area of Birkenhead. His family was from Blackburn, Lancashire where he was born in 1856 right before the family moved to Birkenhead in 1857. In 1881 his parents Henry and Elizabeth were still there with their daughter Elizabeth. I have not seen any records from St. James church, but am under the assumption that this would have been the church they would have used for such things as christenings and marriages. But since this church did not have a graveyard, I am going under the assumption that the family is buried at Flaybrick cemetery. The records for Flaybrick have been recently filmed by the LDS and I am anxiously awaiting the film to become available for viewing. In the meantime, if there is anyone who might have a connection to my Ramsbottom family, I would love to hear from you. Hi all from gorgeous Michigan (in the US of A) where the Northern Lights are at their very most spectacular!! Have never seen any so brilliant and so colorful! But back to genealogy. BIRKENHEAD is the name I am trying to track, and it seems to me that there just might be some long-ago connection between the BIRKENHEAD family and the city of the same name. Here is the scanty bit that I have been able to trace. "My" BIRKENHEAD connection was Bridget BIRKENHEAD, born about 1578 in Huxley, Cheshire or Chester, depending on the source. Her father appears to have been Henry (Dr. Henry?) BIRKENHEAD, also of Huxley, who married first Mary BOSTOCK/BOSTWICK, daughter of Hugh BOSTOCK or BOSTWICK, Esq of Huxley. No children there, but 8-10 of them from second marriage to Elizabeth BUNBURY, daughter of Margaret ALDERSEY and Henry BUNBURY, Esq of Stanney. Henry and Elizabeth's daughter, Bridget, married John CHETWODE, Esq, of Oakley. Oakley Hall in Oakley, Staffs, to be precise. I know that these people are not from Birkenhead, but I do wonder what connection there might be between this family and the city. Anyone have any speculations? Thanks. Nancy keithnancy@t-one.net
