Re Sue Rylands posting: "Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 Subject: [BKHD] JOHNSTONE in Australia Hi All, I would like to publicly thank Peter and Caryl for their help in finding my cousin Len Johnstone and his family nr Perth in Australia. Within half an hour of posting yesterday, Peter had phoned the family and let them know of my existence, they emailed me and today I spoke to Len and Madge for an hour.... Len tells me there are loads of cousins in and around the Wirral still, so loads of work to do. Many, many thanks to you and the list. Sue." ***************************************** I read Sue Rylands letter with excitement and wondered if I could have such luck for I am hoping there might be some Fairclough descendents from my family still living in the Birkenhead area. Last year I found some of the Fairclough names in the 411 pages and sent out 22 letters to B'head & surrounding area with no luck. Only about 5 replied and they weren't related that I could see. Perhaps someone could even tell me how to go about posting a letter to the B'head newspaper, i.e. their address, the charge, etc. I posted my initial info when I joined this list a couple of weeks ago but have some further details that might be further clues. I am looking for descendents of Henry Fairclough (& Ellen Potts Williams), a miller, baker and shopkeeper (corn & flour dealer) in Birkenhead. Their children were all born in Birkenhead. They were: John Robert (1869), Henry (1872), Mary Ellen (1873), William Henry (1875), Edith (1878), Ernest Richard (1880), Maggie Hoylake, my grandmother (1882), Charles Harold (1885) and Lily (1886). It is the descendents of some of these families below that I am hoping to find. John Robert 1870-?, had 6 children: Doris (1895-?)-married Ron BUCK & moved to Australia, Laura (1897-?, was a VAD in WW1 ), Amy (1898-?, married a ?HAIRD), Jack (1904-?), Harold (1906-?), twins Harry & Nellie (1909-?). Ernest Richard had Edith, Ernest, Lillian & ?Laura. I believe they all stayed in Birkenhead. I have a small card, from Aug. 4, 1930 that has written on it "Edith Fairclough, -with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Jones' compliments-12 Iris Ave. Birkenhead" Charles Harold's youngest child was Edward (1916-?1943). He was killed in WW11. I have yet to find him on the CWG Commission site for some reason although I found Charles H. who was killed in WW1. Edward married a Peggy? prior to 1938 and they had 2-3 children. I would really love to find these children or their descendents. Charles H.'s 3 oldest children were sent to an orphanage after he was killed for his wife died a year later. I was told it was Christ Church Orphanage. Would anyone know if there was such a place by that name or any further information about it? I have been in touch with descendents of these families but they know nothing about the orphanage or Eddie. That's the basic information that I have about this family at this point in time. If anyone can help steer me in the right direction to obtain further clues I would be most appreciative. Sandy Stokes in Canada
