Hi there, I'm new to the list and desperately needing either advice or, if not, consolation. I've spent years searching for the marriage and births of Ann(e) MURPHY and James HAYES. The only thing that I have been able to come up with is the 1881 census. This states that Ann was born around 1845 in Birkenhead and James was born around 1829 in Bolton, Lancs. As there is such an age difference, and their eldest child Joseph wasn't born until 1875, I wondered if perhaps James had been married before. The census returns were for Barnsley, WRY. where all their children were born and seemingly stayed. Joseph is my Gt.Grandfather. I have searched the I.G.I. and have come up with a James Hayes born in 1829 at Peel-by-Bolton in 1829 and think that this could be the one, but until I get my hands on the marriage certificate then I can't prove it. Any suggestions will be welcomed with open arms as I am completely out of ideas, in fact nearly brain-dead. I could not find the marriage on the St. Cath's indexes. I've searched several times but think it must have been missed off. Desperately hoping, Janet Drury. From Leicester.
