The Irving Theatre was opened in Victoria Road (later renamed Borough Road) in Seacombe in 1899 on the site of the demolished "Hope House". My great great grandmother, Elizabeth Clarke nee Simmons, lived nearby in Florence Road. She set herself up in business as a theatrical landlady for artists performing at the theatre. Names of artists who boarded at her house were passed on from generation to generation in the family but the only one I remember is Wee Georgie Wood. Does anyone have any knowledge of Elizabeth or information on the Irving Theatre and who performed there? David Railton
