Hello List, For some time I had been trying to find out what V.B.C.E. stood for. I think I have the answer now. I was told Volunteer Battalion, Royal Corps of Engineers. My Grandfather James FULTON born 1883 Birkenhead, Eng. spent 3 years with them in Birkenhead, before coming to Canada. He married here in 1910. He joined the Canadian Army here and was killed at Ypres 1916. For his trade he put down lineman . Could he have learnt this with the V.B.C.E.?? I am trying to find when he may have come to Canada, so if anyone can tell me anything about this group and what age group it may be. Or perhaps if they may be records I can check into. Any help would truely be appreciated. I also was given the information this V.B.C.E Battalion changed in 1908 to Territorial Force. Thank You for any light you may be able to put on this. Pat.
